This is the same thing that they did to Hong Kong. When you have people protesting for freedom, you get them to go back into hiding, and then change over the leadership, and the rules. Covid 19 is real, but it did put a swift end to the protests....what leaders where elected while those restrictions where in place? Where did all those protesters go? The basic foundations of the internet are broken, because the 'do nothing' profit of everything technology lunatics that 'run' everything, and have centralized the internet the best they can to the general public, haven't innovated in over 20 years. Patents on one click purchases are more important then securing the basic foundation of the internet. That foundation being communication. Why we need anything like reddit, or facbook, or instawhatever to pass basic messages, pictures, and video to our friends an family shows you how much of a joke 'hot tech' is/ Take a look at the last article about AI. Said something about only '100' people know how AI works. What they meant to say is that they need to you keep believing that these 100 people will "save us." The foundations of AI have been worked on since Turing. We all need to pull our heads out of our asses if we are going to make it through this.

Comment this will never work (Score 1) 230

How many devices and pieces of software use multiple servers, cloud hosting (aws, etc), different ports, push json to where ever the hell. This will never work unless the firewall is built to auth to the services itself or some higher level inspection...which means a bigger cpu. Also, inspection of https or any TLS traffic is something still hard/different to do. You gonna install a root cert on your smart TV.

I am willing to bet that this code was originally meant to monitor Chinese users and was either put in by a Chinese agent without the companies knowledge or forded to be put in by the Chinese government. I would be willing to think that someone forgot to take it out, or someone said lets try this, but for the Chinese government to do something so obvious...I do now know.

Do you think they have the speed set low right now so when accidents do occur that statistically there is less risk of a fatality? Can they handle weather, potholes, unmapped roads, and construction yet? I hate the hype, and hopefully soon these cars will drive fast, and work better, but it seems like all of these news reports are always forgetting to mention the bad.

I have been able to hit 50mbit speeds in 3 locations in America and most of them are right by Airports. It is like they only care about Airports. I agree with what everyone says here, what is the point in making any of it faster if they just cap/throttle everything and engage in deceptive marketing to avoid negative PR over it? ATT's CTO Andre Fuetsch has forgotten what it is like to have a data cap...sure they want to Extend LTE out, they want to get a great ROI...who cares about everything else. 5g? What would we ever need that for, lets not think about it... It is pathetic that we let these guys have these conferences where they can continue to swap their delusions around and keep the idea alive that the consumer does not get it. We do get it. ATT is a horrible business and Andre Fuetsch is a horrible businessman. If every other cell provider was not just as horrible as ATT, then we could do something about it but when they want to get together and keep prices high to make something off of nothing...then we cannot win.
