Comment The vector art 3D rotate tool is super cool (Score 2) 7

I watched the "Project Turntable" video, and that is unbelievably cool.

To work, the AI has to recognize what the drawing represents, figure out how to reverse-transform the 2D representation into a 3D object, and work out what the hidden parts should look like. It's amazing.

It's only a short step between this and working out walk cycles, matching mouth movements to dialogue, adding facial expressions, etc.

This will revolutionize 2D animation.

Comment Re:~45% Capacity Factor?! (Score 0) 62

Many claim high numbers, but reality is most offshore wind is between 25% and 45%: Source. Check the site every few days and you'll see it bounce around that range. The NREL has some data, showing the mean around 35% or so, but somehow project that to increase to 45% or more over the next few decades. As capacity factor is a function of wind availability, I guess they're expecting it to get windier?

Comment Nuclear saved the day (Score 0) 161

Duke Energy for the last 30 days was heavily nuclear, and wind and solar were essentially non-existent. Fossil fuels fell - but not as much as intermittents (solar/wind). Nuclear carried the day. That's what we should be rolling out as quickly as possible. Nuclear is lower cost (when you look at the full cost of energy), much more reliable, and lower greenhouse gas emissions than solar or wind.
