Journal tyzephyr's Journal: Joining the ranks of idiots

Well, I have officially joined the ranks of idiots who forgot to "friends only" a journal entry, and got fired because of it. A few weeks ago I posted a journal entry on my livejournal about keeping a "work kill-list" (which I stated resets every day and I've never actually done anything with), and briefly mentioned stabbing someone with a titanium spork. You can tell this was a very serious, threatening journal entry. Sporks are seriously the most dangerous threatening objects on the planet. Not once in this blog posting did I mention the company name NOR the person's name who was annoying me at the time.

Well, apparently, all sarcasm aside, this was unacceptable. I honestly thought I made said entry "friends only", but apparently not (although, it is friends-only now). Friday I was pulled into one of the owners offices along with my manager, and given a letter that stated I was being terminated immediately due to the discovery of a blog entry that described "potentially violent" acts. It also said that my behavior at work had on more than one occasion been unacceptable.

I find this odd considering earlier that day everything was fine. My manager acted completely normal to me. It happened to be quarterly-bonus day, and I received my bonus from the owner. He smiled and shook my hand! So, perhaps it's just me, but I don't think my behavior at work had anything to do with it. Every co-worker (well, ex-co-worker) I've spoken to since says they had no idea it was going to happen and are completely shocked.

Heh, I do love that my work quality and ability was never called into question or mentioned in the termination letter. Which, by the way, was the only way they dealt with me. They didn't talk to me about anything, nor did they point out the exact blog entry, or cite any instances where my behavior was "inappropriate". I mean, I'll give them the blog thing, but I seriously doubt they could cite my behavior as being any more "inappropriate" than many of my now ex-coworker's behaviors.

It's not like I can do anything about it. I live in Georgia. We're a "right to work" state.
