Journal Journal: Joining the ranks of idiots

Well, I have officially joined the ranks of idiots who forgot to "friends only" a journal entry, and got fired because of it. A few weeks ago I posted a journal entry on my livejournal about keeping a "work kill-list" (which I stated resets every day and I've never actually done anything with), and briefly mentioned stabbing someone with a titanium spork. You can tell this was a very serious, threatening journal entry. Sporks are seriously the most dangerous threatening objects on the planet. Not once in this blog posting did I mention the company name NOR the person's name who was annoying me at the time.

Well, apparently, all sarcasm aside, this was unacceptable. I honestly thought I made said entry "friends only", but apparently not (although, it is friends-only now). Friday I was pulled into one of the owners offices along with my manager, and given a letter that stated I was being terminated immediately due to the discovery of a blog entry that described "potentially violent" acts. It also said that my behavior at work had on more than one occasion been unacceptable.

I find this odd considering earlier that day everything was fine. My manager acted completely normal to me. It happened to be quarterly-bonus day, and I received my bonus from the owner. He smiled and shook my hand! So, perhaps it's just me, but I don't think my behavior at work had anything to do with it. Every co-worker (well, ex-co-worker) I've spoken to since says they had no idea it was going to happen and are completely shocked.

Heh, I do love that my work quality and ability was never called into question or mentioned in the termination letter. Which, by the way, was the only way they dealt with me. They didn't talk to me about anything, nor did they point out the exact blog entry, or cite any instances where my behavior was "inappropriate". I mean, I'll give them the blog thing, but I seriously doubt they could cite my behavior as being any more "inappropriate" than many of my now ex-coworker's behaviors.

It's not like I can do anything about it. I live in Georgia. We're a "right to work" state.

Journal Journal: Geek snobbery

I think at some point everyone in the "geek" culture could be accused of snobbery. I recently came across someone who made me re-evaluate my own snotty attitude towards certain types of geeks in the hierarchy...

I was on Flickr and noticed a picture of Pocky. It was subtitled with something along the lines of "This stuff is really popular in Japan, the kids there eat it like crazy!"
Now, I found this to be a stupid comment as Pocky is relatively popular in the US - at least among the culture/subculture I hang out with; So I commented with "Yeah, I live in the states but Pocky is like crack to most of my friends - then again, most of my friends are anime freaks and gamers."
Her responding comment more or less said that those people are only kids born in the 90's who weren't around when being called a "nerd" wasn't COOL, unlike her friends who were all born in the 70's & 80's, who were REAL gamers that played RPG's and watched old skool cartoons.
Considering I'm 23, and most of my friends are between 21 & 30 y/o, I found her comment rather, well, stuck up.

...which got me to thinking of my own attitude. I mean, I'll admit it, I kinda look down on CCGers. In my experience they're kinda gross.
Also, gamers with a lot of cats bother me too. Especially male gamers... it's just weird.
Then there are the two types of table top RPG gamer. The first type I enjoy - I am one sometimes. The regular person, "I have a job but I do this for fun." Then there's THEM. The other type of table top gamer. The live-in-their-mama's-basement-until-they're-45 type. These are the scary ones.
OH OH! And one more - the Naruto kids. These people... THESE PEOPLE... who ware those damn Naruto headbands all the time, constantly bitch about how CN messed up their FAVORITE SHOW (as if this is something CN doesn't do with every anime), and go to every single CON dressed (poorly) as their fav Naruto character.

I guess what I'm saying is we're all a little biased. We all have an entire group of geeks we can't stand/look down on. We all have our own little idea of a geek hierarchy. And of course, we're the kings & queens of our own hierarchy. Maybe we could all (myself included) learn to be a little more benevolent.

Journal Journal: I love pirates.. just not this one.

Ok, so I bought this game called Pirates: Legend of the Black Buccaneer, NOT to be confused with Legend of the Black Kat.
It was around $10. I was bored and wanted something cheap, so I bought this and Tekken 4.
Tekken 4 was amusing for about 2 hours, but I'm horrible at fighting games, specifically Tekken games, and realized getting my ass handed to me over and over again was starting to wear on my nerves. So I figured "w00t, pirate game time!!!" thinking even for being a cheap game, it couldn't be that bad.

...boy was I wrong.
Worst. Game. Evar. I finally gave up on trying to get anywhere after I became the Black Buccaneer and got online to find a walk through.
Yay, gamefaqs!!!
No. Not on gamefaqs.
Yay for my awesome googling skills!!!
No. Not one site linked from google was helpful, nor did searching Yahoo! Answers give any, well, answers.
This game is SO bad, no one has even bothered to write any walkthroughs or cheats for it.
The entire game is stabbing and shooting (sometimes with cannons) at monkeys and falling to your death... however, at this point I just want to get further in the game, even if it kills me. So if anyone knows where I can find a walkthrough, or at least how to get scrolls or how to jump on the thinggies w/the spikes, please let me know. I'm so lost.
