  • Dude(ttes)....Ya gotta go with the loaded baked potato soup.

Nothing says I'm fat and loving it like a lovin spoonful of carbs ala King.

Although, a MLT where the mutton is nice a lean is really good too.--not so obscure movie reference--can you name it? (I knew you could)
  • Tomatoe.... But quite frankly any soup can be good if made right :)
  • Calamari stew that is so famous on Christmas Eve (basically tomato sauce, peas, onions, garlic, and loads of calamari).
  • eeeeh gimme a good cup of French Onion anyday, if done right, it is heavenly *drool*
  • lobster bisque !!!

    MMMmmmmmm

  • Well, I love wonton soup, but I also love Miso soup and Egg Drop soup. I also like Corn Choudah, none of that New England stuff (because that includes such Dixie-States as Connecticutt, and Massachussets), but real Maine Corn Choudah.
  • I will say Clam Chowder, but ONLY if you clarify the option. Because there is only New England (white) Clam Chowder. Manhattan Clam Chowder is a travesty and should be banned by law wherever right-thinking people still have influence.
  • She used to make it all from scratch with real cream--none of this skim milk crap or soup mixes. Yum. I miss that soup SO MUCH--and her oatmeal cookies.
    • I think soup mixes are nasty. Simply nasty. (I do "accept" boullion cubes/stock base in a bottle though hmmmf grrrmf) There are lots of soups you can make quickly without having to use a mix. My favorite easy soup is gazpacho - throw ingredients into blender, blend, chill (if necessary), serve. Otherwise, do take the time to make a proper soup. It really is worth the time and effort. It's sad that cooking has been reduced to "open package add water" in this day and age :-/

As far as cream vs. skim milk - h

      • oh...wait...tried that already. But you gotta stop tempting me with all this good food talk.

Hey, I did have some good news...my g/f wants to use me as a test bed for recipes. She cooks a mean quiche and some other dishes, so I know I'll be liking a lot of it. I can sorta cook, not great, but just don't have a lot of time. Anyway, she said she's going to try 2 new dishes a month or so (she's busy too, so this is GREAT for her to do this!).

Oh, and she likes wine! One of, about only 2 people I know
        • Ooooh, btlzu2 the guinea pig! Sounds like fun! (And I hope she puts real cream in that quiche ;)

Cooking with a gf/bf or just a good friend(s) in general is fun. Especially trying new stuff together. You guys are going to have a great time with this, I know it already!

It's too early in the morning to drink wine, but I do have something to look forward to for the evening :-) Better get me some coffee now...

  • Been making it from scratch for years. It takes about 3 hours of minimal labor (once you get it to the simmer), will feed a family for several meals, and freezes beautifully--not that there are any leftovers.

    Herewith:

    1 pound beef stewing meat
    1 onion coarsly chopped
    1 rib celery with leaves
    1 large carrot, coarsly chopped
    1 bay leaf
    6 peppercorns

Place the beef in a large pot with about 12 cups of water. Bring to a boil, turn down the heat to simmer, and take about 20 minutes to skim off the foamy scum that co
  • For me, it would be a tossup between potato soup and chicken/wild rice for soups made the most often. I like a squash or pumpkin soup when in season, onion soup once in a while, split pea... gah. Ok, I like soup... one of the first things I learned how to make well. Still cannot bake to save my life.
  • I especially like a creamy rich Hungarian Mushroom soup. Next to that I enjoy Wild Rice and Mushroom soup.

I am deeply hurt by your refusal at awknolwedge our friendly fungi soups!!!! =P
    • Heh...be disappointed by my laziness instead. I just threw some random soup names without really thinking it over :-)

I've never had Hungarian mushroom soup, but considering I've never had bad Hungarian food (especially when I was in Hungary), I hope to try it sometime!

  • Nothing beats Campbell's Chicken Noodle when you've got a cold, but when I'm healthy I prefer something else.
