Journal tuxette's Journal: TV Shows - a list and a poll 15

What is/are your favorite(s) on this list, and who do you feel is missing yet deserves to be on the list? Do you see something on the list that shouldn't be there - ever?

TV Shows - a list and a poll

Comments Filter:
  • how about Red Dwarf, Dr. Who and Harry Enfield?
  • as we don't need junk. Add things like... 'Are you being served?'(british) and 'Night Court' (US, starring Harry Anderson and Richard Moll)

Hm. For that matter, where's Johnny Carson? *sigh* i won't watch much current tv. i watch the simpsons.

  • I can't stand that show.

I watched the last episode just so I could shit on them as they went out.

    Hah.

Keep up the good work, J. Alexander. KFC Shill.
  • Love that show. It helps that each episode is self-contained.

My favorite show (that isn't on the list!) is News Radio [imdb.com].
    • L&O:Criminal Intent is my L&O fav, and SVU ain't so bad either (yeah, we watch all three).

I'd also swap out Letterman for Conan O'Brien (if you can't stay up late, catch last nights show on Comedy Central the next day). By far, the funniest late night talk show host EVAH!!

And my personal fav lately has been "Joan of Arcadia"... that show is just hilarious (God is just so funny in that show). Really good stuff, IMHO.
      • And my personal fav lately has been "Joan of Arcadia"

I have to agree here. Joan of Arcadia is great. Joan is a very sweet character, I love to see how she struggles through the various issues...

    • Law and Order is a good show. Probably too "sophisticated" for "the masses."

  • Hell, I don't even have a TV, haven't had one in 20 years, but even I can't believe they would leave off Monty Python's Flying Circus.

  • Different strokes you know though. I agree totally with:
    1. Seinfeld
    2. The Simpsons
    4. All in the Family
    18. Law & Order
    19. Curb Your Enthusiasm
    23. The Twilight Zone

    They're completely missing (IMO):

    Monty Python's Flying Circus (revolutionary)
Fawlty Towers (absolutely PERFECT, every episode)
The Office (newer show, but very good)

You've GOTTA have Fawlty Towers on a top something list. Seinfeld rules the wasteland however. There is just TOO much that came out of that show like "Soup Nazi", "close talker
    • I think this is an all-American list, as all of the great British shows are missing. There are other European shows that I dig as well, including "Derrick" from Germany (how lots of Norwegians learned their German - "Derrick, Kriminalpolizei!" :), "Komissar Rex" from Austria, "Nikolaj og Julie" from Denmark, and "Rejseholdet" from Denmark. We've had some interesting mini-series as well, the coolest one lately being "De Besatte" from Sweden and Denmark (or was it a whole Nordic thing? All the countries were
      • I completely agree with you. When I was a youngin', I completely fell prey to that whole shallow thing, partially thanks to that image that Hollywood/TV projects. It sorta warps your mind if you aren't careful to recognize it. It's pretty sickening how shallow some aspects of American pop culture are. I don't think that means all or most Americans are, but the people running the entertainment industry certainly are.

I do think that British TV seems much more realistic and, actually, tons funnier because
  • The West Wing
    Star Trek Next Gen
    SWAT
    Gilligan's Island
    NOVA
    Starsky and Hutch
    Friends
    Cheers
    RoboTech
    Cosby Show
    Hill Street Blues
    Dallas
    Dharma and Greg
    Mythbusters
    Powerpuff Girls
    Battlestar Ballatica

  • 15. Star Trek

Uhm, the original series sucks, blows, stinks, and smells.:P

My List of Subzero Surreal Taste: 0. Futurama
    1. Made in Canada
    2. Puppets Who Kill
    3. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
    4. The Simpsons
    5. Lexx
    6. NewsRadio
    7. Blackadder
    8. dunno, Duckman or Family Guy or Babylon 5 or something

The order is actually fairly random.

Put no trust in cryptic comments.
