Journal Journal: Intel Patents Skype 2

Intel appear to have a Patent on the Softphone. Filed in 2000, granted in 2006. Not only that, but Intel have just invested $20m into Jajah. Should we anticipate some litigation designed to put eBays baby out of business? This doesn't just affect Skype of course, pretty much all VoIP "softphones" will be on the wrong side of this patent.

Journal Journal: Orange Bring WiFi/Cellular Handoff To The UK

Orange has announced that it's WiFi VoIP / Cellular handoff service, named "UniquePhone", will be available in the UK in November. It offers "seamless" hand-off between WiFi and the Cellular networks. Interestingly, calls which are started via a WiFi VoIP call remain free even when handed on to the Cellular network. Journal Journal: Asterisk - Techie Toy or Real World PBX?

A VoIP User member is questioning the validity of Asterisk as a commercial PBX solution.

"...do we need to look at Asterisk as a 'techie' or 'early adopter' piece of art that runs at their homes on a dusty old PC that otherwise would not have been used anyway?"

Is open-source PBX software tainted with its 'techie' image, or can systems like Asterisk actually give rise to a serious threat to the hardware PBX industry?
