Japan has tried tax incentives and PR campaigns, but what they really need to do is just say to their population that they need N new people each year and for every one of those that's not a baby they will let in a foreigner. Japanese people are so racist that they'll just start boning in the street the second it's announced.

I'm sorry, but did we conveniently forget the fact that a lot of the money for Artemis has been awarded to SpaceX for contracts that they have so far failed to deliver on? I'm not defending Artemis or its management but to hold up SpaceX as some sort of more efficient alternative is just wildly uninformed; in some cases THEY are the ones responsible for Artemis' unimpressive progress.

Despite its occasionally fun and wacky outward-facing persona, Japan at its core is an extremely conservative country full of narcs, run by old men who don't want anything to change ever. That's the reason our economy, our science, and our population are all in a decades-long tailspin. More specifically to this story: you can't even get a lot of medications that are over the counter in the rest of the world, and you think you're going to get cannabis legalized here? Maybe fifty years from now when it's legal everywhere else in the world and the international community is shaming Japan for its lack of progress on the issue, but not a second before.
