Comment But I hear the risk is super low (Score -1) 30

Why in the world would we cancel E3? I hear that the risk of Covid to a healthy population is super small. You either have to be elderly which lets face it is not E3 or you have to have underlying health conditions like Obesity, Diabetes, High blood pressure or a hyper sedentary lifestyle to be at elevated risk? .... On second thought maybe we should cancel E3....

I don't understand how people are not grateful that we now live in an age where responses like this are even choices nation states have on the table to deal with the really sticky situations. Go back in time just sixty years and form that point in time to start of human civilization things were just more grim. Imagine if you will you are country A, lets call them China. And country B lets say.. India. Well India decided that part of China wasn't China at all, in fact India says it's part of India! Why those Indian's even sent armed men into China and attack our armed Chinese men trying to take part of China for themselves! Can you believe it?! How do you react to that? Your people are looking to you to do something. To let India know that you were going to defend China and you were super duper serious. Well up until the 1960s you had one option. Send in more armed men and teach them a lesson! Now you live in a time where there are many other option on the table to send a strong message other than military force. Does it do harm? Yes, that's the point. If it didn't cause harm it wouldnt be an effective message or deterrent. Is it better than military action? Yes, a thousand times over.

No, in other words, stop the bleeding before you worry about the sniffles. But if you have a viable plan that solves both problems at once, we'd love to hear about it. At least, I know I would.

Ok, simple. Increase the demand for labor over the supply of labor. This causes a labor shortage and the cost of labor goes up in response across the board. For everyone. Like it did over the last four years. And before you go off, by far the largest percentage increase in earning and wealth for any group in during that time period were the bottom 20%.

On the other hand you can do the reverse and increase the supply of labor (welcome millions of immigrants!) decrease the demand for labor (if your business can't afford to pay a living wage than it should be closed!) and you will see wages and employment in general go down for everyone. Across the board. But hey, dont worry, at least under your plan those of us who still have jobs at the mega corporations that can afford to pay the increase wages demanded by the government will have a nice $15 an hour floor we can stand on...

Submission + - Amazon Patents the Milkman 1

theodp writes: Got Milk? Got Milk Delivery Patent? Perhaps unfamiliar with the concept of the Milkman, the USPTO has granted Amazon.com a patent for the Recurring Delivery of Products , an idea five Amazon inventors came up with to let customers schedule product deliveries to their doorsteps or mailboxes on a recurring basis, without needing to submit a new order every time. 'For instance,' the filing explains, 'a customer may request delivery of one bunch of bananas every week and two gallons of milk every two weeks.'

Submission + - Can Legacy Dual-Core CPUs Drive Modern Graphics Cards? (hothardware.com)

MojoKid writes: "A few weeks back, HotHardware examined whether a new GPU like the GeForce GTX 660 could breathe new life into an older quad-core gaming system built in mid 2008. The answer concluded was definitely yes — but many readers asked to reconsider the question, this time using a lower-end dual-core Core 2 Duo. The Core 2 Duo CPU chip used was a first-generation C2D part based on Intel's 65nm Conroe core. It's clocked at 3GHz with 4MB of L2 cache and has a 1333MHz FSB. The CPU was paired with 3GB of DDR2-1066 memory. The long and short of it is, you can upgrade the graphics card on a six year-old dual core machine and expect to see a noticeable improvement in game performance — significant gains in fact, up to 50 percent or more."
