Over jaywalking. Don't they have something better to do? One of these days, someone's going to challenge jaywalking statutes based on acquired rights ("I was walking here before you put that street through - I have an acquired right, so sod off").

It's spreading - politician illegally restraining student

Video: Cop punches woman in face for jaywalking

  • I didn't know this started over jaywalking, but I saw the part where the cop punched her and she had it coming. You don't fight with cops in the street. It's a lose, lose situation...
    • When the cop is using excessive force, you have just as much right to defend yourself as anyone else. The guy's a bozo. He lost control of the situation, and everything flowed from that.

The moment he punched her in the face, he lost the protection of the color of law.

      • The cop was a 'tard who lost control of the situation, but the woman who was punched in the face earned it. She was either pulling at his arm or scratching him.

The problem is that the cop did bad. But he will not be punished for it or held accountable in any way.

I disagree, maybe he should have ignored her jaywalking. I assume there was some reason he did not, maybe he's racist, but probably he has someone on his back about problems in that area.

There should be no reason for him to get physical, she should have listened to him. Once she walked away she escalated the situation. The only way to get someone to do something they do not want to do is violence.

Whoever said violence never solved anything hasn't been paying attention to the last 5,000 years. Violence

            That's absolutely not true.

If he had been following proper procedure, this wouldn't have happened. He tried to fulfill his quota quickly (trying to stop several other jaywalkers while trying to cite the first one); greed, laziness, and stupidity will get you every time. You don't see a single cop waving over 4 other speeders while he's trying to cite one who's already pulled over.

Proper procedures are there to prevent exact

very insightful, I must say I agree with you analysis.

My analysis only started once violence was initiated. If you fully trace most authority, it ends with the threat of violence. Once the cop used his implicit threat of violence to stop the lady, he had to back it up. Your scenario might have been preferable in some circumstances, but given the hypothetical 400 lb. linebacker who resisted this, would have ended in a huge spectacle and a tasering. He managed to control the situation quickly and effic

I know I shouldn't feed the trolls, but...

Quota? What fucking quota? He saw four fucktards breaking the law and tried to apprehend them. Next you'll be saying that if a single police officer sees four men raping four seperate women, he should only try to apprehend one of them? Pull your head out of your fucking ass and have a look at the real world for a change.

Here's a simple solution which will help avoid these situations in the future: Don't break the law! and if you do break the law and a police officer

              • Cops have a quota. Why do you think he was stationed there doing jaywalking duty?

Black or white if you break the law and resist arrest you will be treated the same.

That's BS and we all know it.

Besides, you probably broke at least one law today. With the number of laws on the books, it's almost impossible not to.

Maybe that is true, but if a police officer tried to detain me for questioning or to arrestme, I wouldn't act like complete fucktard and start screaming at him and abusing him. There's a little thing called respect - you obviously have not heard of this concept but you really should try it some time.

The reason there appears to be a problem with black people being "victimised" is that they

                  • I gt along very well with the police - except when they step over the line. Then, there's a problem. People with guns and the authority to detain others need to follow the rules for everyone's safety. This cop broke the rules BEFORE the incident even started, by trying to meet his quota the easy way. He screwed up, and has only himself to blame.

Quit the "quota" bullshit. Unless you can provide evidence that your mythical quotas exist, stick to the facts. he was trying to arrest people who had broken the law, they got uppity, started acting like dicks and got what was coming. Fuck 'em all.

                    • Unless you can provide evidence that your mythical quotas exist

Public inquiries where police forces have admitted to quotas for parking tickets, speeding tickets, etc., imposed by local governments for revenue considerations.

Just search for police traffic ticket quotas.

This mostly becomes a story when the police go on a job action, refuse to fulfill their assigned quotas, and revenue drops.

It's been widely enough reported over the last 30 years (even before the internet) that it's only wishful think

At least I have the balls to put a name to my trolling! ;^)

    • The reasonable thing to do would be suck it up. However, I can understand entering "wtf let me goooo" mode in that situation. I'd feel like shit if some douche-nozzle cop detained me for no good reason.

That woman earned more than a punch in the face. It's just plain foolish to interfere with a (clearly inept) officer attempting to restrain another person.
    • There's a difference between interfering with an officer performing their duties and intervening when a police officer has clearly lost control of the situation. He had other remedies. The first one would have been to ask for backup, *LOCK HIS F***ING CRUISER*, and then just follow her on foot.

Instead, he was so eager to make his quota of jaywalking tickets (he wanted to hand out 4 in one shot) that he put himself in a situation where if someone said "F.U." he was in a losing situation.

      He blew it as soo

He who has but four and spends five has no need for a wallet.
