Comment "Secure" Boot relies on Microsoft not screwing up (Score 1) 39

I can't believe previous posters have tried to say it's not really Microsoft's fault. Fanboys are hopeless.

From the article:
reloader.efi, which was digitally signed after somehow passing Microsoft’s internal review process for third-party UEFI apps

Microsoft failed in their QA and wrongly signed a malicious file.
How many other "Secure" Boot modules have been wrongly signed?
Has Microsoft even properly identified the person / company that submitted this malicious file?

"Secure" Boot's primary purpose is to lock down computers and only let software approved by Microsoft run. It's not here to help the computer's owner.

Comment What is the end goal - Windows10 compatibility? (Score 1) 15

Great work by the developers to release Wine 9.0.

What is their ultimate end goal?
Are they aiming for 100% compatibility with Windows10?

As Windows10 will go out of support in 2025, it will become a fixed target with no new features.
Then it should be possible to eventually get 100% compatibility.

You sound like a typical upper management moron, demonstrating why people loathe senior management.
Following your example, if Space Sprockets is making huge profits, it should be offering salary of $20/hour, not $15 for the door greeter. Yes 10 people can do the job at $15/hour. However, Space Sprockets should offer higher pay to get the best door greeter.

You have indirectly stated that all "door greeters" would have exactly the same personality and friendliness towards your customers. That is a stupid assertion.

Comment Microsoft platforms make it easier for hackers (Score 1) 14

The explanation of how hackers get access includes:
- Microsoft Exchange vulnerabilities
- RDP brute-forcing tools to gain access to vulnerable Windows systems

Any business that uses Windows is asking to be hit by hackers.

The other problem for business is stupid staff who get fooled by phishing emails.

this was a joint AMD / Cloudflare press release pretending to be news

It is NEWS when AMD sells superior CPUs. For most of x86's history, Intel has built the fastest x86 CPUs. Recently AMD has beaten Intel, despite being 1/10th the size of Intel.

You should be celebrating the fact we have competition in x86 CPUs. If it wasn't for AMD, we'd be years behind in progress and Intel would be selling Core 2 CPUs.
