Confirmed: Microsoft Says It Will Open Source VB 6 205

msmoriarty writes "Microsoft told a group of MVPs today at Tech-Ed that it plans to take Visual Basic 6 open source and will release the source code on CodePlex. A source at the event said that Microsoft is planning to release only the VB6 language on codeplex – not Visual Studio or related tools." Update: 05/20 02:24 GMT by T : Alas, too good to be true. msmoriarty writes with an apologetic retraction: "We got it wrong — Microsoft denied and went back to our source and they pulled confirmation. Our apologies."

Stay away from VBScript, its very out of date at this time. Best work with Powershell, it has deep integration into Active Directory and Exchange (as well as OS, WMI etc). Its quite simple to get a script up and running, and its widely supported. It comes built into the OS in Windows 2008 onwards, for 2003 its available as a download.

Not the case any more. I transitioned our firm from Blackberries to iPhones a year ago, and its been a roaring success. Its just so much more user friendly, even our technically inept users who had trouble using some of the functionality on RIM devices took to the iPhones very easily. Add to that the numerous apps available and its become the most popular business tool in the company, even more so than laptops. I know of other firms as well that have moved over with similar results. So I dont think it can be said that business is the sole domain of RIM

As an IT manager myself, I'd have to say this is a very reasonable request. Firstly most places wouldnt allow you to run your own server on the network, so I'd say your IT team is being quite generous. The responsibility for the network and its security is the IT departments, should a hacker break in and steal personal records who would be blamed ? In an environment like a hospital which is subject to numerous government IT regulations (at least in the UK and US) having a non secure system is a massive liability, it would immediately cause an audit to fail.

Psyop is a motion graphics studio not an ad agency. Agencies typically hire other places to do ad's (places like Psyop, Imaginary forces, R!ot). Theres tons of other stuff that the agency does like media buying, campaign management etc...

The second offer I received is for a huge nationwide company opening an IT office a couple blocks from where I currently work. They're an all-Microsoft shop — VB, C#, .NET, SQL200*, etc. I'd be a very small cog in a very large machine. They offered me 66% more than I'm making now. Benefits are essentially identical between the companies, so that's not a big factor. I'll also give the Perl company a chance to make me another offer, but what should the threshold be? How do you folks balance the desire for a fun job with the need to pay off debt?"

mattsucks writes to tell us that according to AdAge, retail behemoth WalMart is trying desperately to target the MySpace demographic with a new, and highly sanitized, site designed to appeal to teens. From the article: "It's a quasi-social-networking site for teens designed to allow them to 'express their individuality,' yet it screens all content, tells parents their kids have joined and forbids users to e-mail one another. Oh, and it calls users 'hubsters' -- a twist on hipsters that proves just how painfully uncool it is to try to be cool."
