Journal tanfur's Journal: My introduction 5

Hello,

This is just a short introductory post, and to explain what I intend to do with the journal. I'm a techie (work at an ISP security department), so I am interested in tech issues as well as a *lot* of other stuff. So I'll be posting the tech stuff I want to journal here, and everything else in my live journal ( http://www.livejournal.com/~blackfeather ).

My personal interests include: anthropology, music, spirituality, science fiction, art, furry fandom/lifestyle, native societies, and a whole lot more.

As for technical issues, I'm a FreeBSD user (I run 4.4-STABLE with KDE 3.0 X Windows desktop), and code in Perl at work. I work in the customer security department of an ISP.

My only tech issues here are about this ./ Journal: I'd like to see two things, and have one question:

  • A way to mark on the subject lines, a moderation of sorts, of comments on the journal entries. A user would always be a moderator for his/her own journal.
  • A friends list, much like LiveJournal.
  • And one question: can I 'deep link' to my journal entries, so I can post that in my LiveJournal when I write in it?

My livejournal's not been updated in a while, though. :(

Comments Filter:
    1. You can't moderate people who write in your journal (unless you have moderator points [slashdot.org] on that day)
    2. There is a friends list [slashdot.org] here, and even a foes list [slashdot.org]. I'll leave you the fun of finding how it works.
    3. You can "deep link" into your journal. In this page [slashdot.org] you have all your journal entries in a nice list.
Btw: I don't find any point in furries. If you want to create a sexy animal with breasts and hips [sabrina-online.com], why won't you create it as a human (or an alien)?
    • regarding item 1 - that I hope it'll change, so anyone can moderate his journal...
    • Greetings,

Indeed it would be nice if moderation of entries to one's own journal would be allowed. As for the friends list, I wanted something like in LiveJournal, where you could read all their entries on one page, date-time sorted.

As for deep linking, what I wanted was more of a link direct to a given entry, so the readers don't have to page down to it. It would mean inserting anchor tags into the html, I don't know how much difficulty that would entail (certainly not a lot in Perl, I wouldn't think).

I think that I also created an account 'blackfeather' some time ago, but I am not sure under which of many emails. Is there *any* way to reclaim it? I know there were no recent posts, and very few older posts.

As for furry, if you're not one, you won't get it. I'm into it in large part for the spritual component, I'm a Raven and Coyote totemist. I know spirituality of any kind is pretty much declase / out of fashion, but I don't care,it helps me grow as a person.

      • Hi Tanfur (is that an Arabic/Indian name?)

After you add friends (in my message, try clicking on the white ball near the date), you can see the list you described by clicking on the "journals" list above. Regarding linking, did you mean linking to a certain journal, or linking to something inside a journal? You can't use anchors in slashdot for some reason, so only the first option will work.

If you want to reclaim "feather", logout and then use the "lost password" option. You won't be told what was your email address there, so you'll have to check all of your email accounts.

If spirituality through animal figures helps you to be a better person, who am I to negate it?

Have fun in the lovely slashdot.
        • Thanks, I'll look up how to do that with the friends list in a bit. As for linking, what I wanted was to be able to link to a given entry, which does seem possible. I don't need links -within- an entry (anchor tags), I thought when I wrote that one would have to open the whole journal every time to read it, but now I see each entry is a /. entry, not the entire journal. 'Tanfur' is English. It is composed of 'tan' (as in the color) and 'fur'. In honor of Coyote. I go by Blackfeather Tanfur, my 'furry' name. 'Blackfeather' is composed of 'Black' (the color) and 'feather', for Raven. (the plumage of many ravens is in fact so dark black, that it is almost blue, and has a bluish sheen). -- blackfeather ^^*^^
