Journal subgeek's Journal: i'm finally a somebody. 61

i've got a freak. everyone else has lost their chance to be my first. now you can only be on the list.

while i admire Chacham's adherance to his beliefs, i think it wouldn't hurt him to lighten up some.

well that's that. i think it was a result of comments in these journals. here is my goodbye message to Chacham.

so, now i'm going to beg Em's forgiveness and put some polls here to change the subject. no multiple choice, you provide your own answers, since that's what you'd do anyway.

what is your favorite color?

what is your favorite bad movie?

i'm finally a somebody.

  • Now you just have to get one of your foes to become freaks. :)

    Favorite color is purple-fuschia.

Favorite bad movie ... uh, just one? Can't do it. Here's the short list:

    • Mystery Men
    • 2001
    • Army of Darkness
    • Dark Star
    That is all.
    • won't work. i don't foe people. i'd rather usually ignore somebody and occasionally be angry about what they say than keep a list to remind myself what to be angry about.

i didn't include my answers, so i'll put them here.

yellow. if it's a tube paint, it would be cadmium yellow medium. i like yellow that has a hint of red, but not any white. it's intense and beautiful.

      dude, where's my car?

the movie answe changes from time to time. yellow has been my favorite color for some time.

      oh, and thanks.
      • Dude where's my car was the movie I didn't want to like-

yet while treadmillin' I watched and got sucked in-= so much so that when I had to stop and go pick up my wife, I taped the rest of it! If the phrase "snootchy bootchies!" was in that movie, I would give it a 10 out of 9. That would have brought it to the limit.

Burnt Umber/Burnt Ochre- it varies but those are my fav tubes.
        • i knew i was going to like that movie, but i felt guilty about it until i actually saw it. it has so many funny things in it. i mean, the villain is one super-hot giant alien. what's not to like about that?

there's something very canadian about this place.
          • The ending totally spoiled the movie for me. And with ending I mean when they get the device to enlarge their respective girlfriend's breasts. Watching two stoners struggle with one impossible situation after the next was funny but I was totally turned off by the breast thing. The tattoo scene is a classic, though.
    • Safety Cap, I didn't know that Mystery Men counted as a bad movie. I honestly thought that it was good in the story line, special effects, etc. I hate it when movies go overboard, & I really liked it.

I guess my favourite bad movie(s) would have to be any Bible movie. The quality doesn't always rate well in my books because it's hard to interpret the story correctly, but I do enjoy them.

      My favourite color is red.

subgeek, congrats on being freaked. ;^)
      • I say Mystery Men was a "bad" movie, because I am the only one who really, really likes it. I mean, I've probably worn the DVD down a few microns just from having the "laser" burning on it so many times.

So, why wasn't this movie hot enough to get a sequal? Bah. That's just another injustic, like the fact that there will never be a sequal to "The Fifth Element [imdb.com]," my second-most favorite movie ever (but not sucky, thanks to the excellent Chris Tucker, Gary Oldman, and Bah-roose, plus the ever-tasty Milla Jovo

        • the fifth element totally rules. i need it on DVD now. can't decide between the standard one with the extra features or the "superbit" without features but a higher quality picture. basically, i don't have a good enough TV to know the difference, but someday i might. of course, when i can afford a big screen HDTV, i could also afford to buy the fifth element on higher quality DVD.
          • Bah!

I'm totally torn, because I really like the DVD for the movie, but every time I play it I feel shafted:

I suggest you go for the superbit version, so at least the pictures will be better; you're not missing any "features," because, well... there aren't any (this is where the shafted feeling comes in).

  • I have a freak too. Some guy named hemmorroids, theough the name appears to be a pain in the ass yuk yuk I have not seen said freak post in a while and nothing to me about why I suck so bad that in his very small life he made me the enemy....
    • i just take it as at least someone feels strongly enough about me to ignore me actively. you can't please everyone, but at least you can make an impression.
      • Yeah, it's harder to get freaks than fans. Somehow the first freak is always a little exciting. I have a few, so I don't complain.

My first freak however, is the only one I also marked foe, but I know him very well ;-)

  • favorite color? green

favorite bad movie? again, as I've been posting all over here I can't decide if it's Eegah or Mother's Day, however some people don't like They Live where-as I think I have modeled my life after that =^)

As for freaks, you know you're someone when someone you've foe'd has friended you, and they aren't just stalking you out of hatred, they actually like you.
    • Be careful. Don't let it go to your head. You could have been on his friend's list before you foed him, plus it could be a reflection of his character & not your value. I'm not saying that this is the case, but it could be.
      • ... it could be a reflection of his character & not your value.

Talking about yourself in the third person? When I made that parent post I didn't want to mention any names so as not to embarass you =^) But since you're out, I've got to ask, why did it seem like you kept friending me? I was getting a little peeved that this was a new troll technique to flood people's messages* by repeatedly changing your relationship with someone, but since it only appeared to happen like once or so I figured you eit
        • Talking about yourself in the third person? When I made that parent post I didn't want to mention any names so as not to embarass you =^) But since you're out,

Well, perhaps. I guess people would have to check your list to see for sure [unless I go change that right now, but you know what I mean]. I don't think that it's an embarrassment to keep a freak on my friend's list. I'm sure that whoever "he" is, he does appreciate the sentiment. =^)

Now that I have your attention, I want to ask you, how do you feel

  • Attack of the Killer Tomatoes [imdb.com] (original, not the "director's cut").

    • i had no idea there was a director's cut. i always liked the doctor who was obviously dubbed. i also like the reporter who badgers a woman after her husband is killed. "you're not a spring chicken anymore. you need a man!"
  • Blue.

    blue blue blue blue blue.

In my [new] house, I have...
    • Blue Lapis, Windmill Wings, and #818 in our bedroom. (various shades of a nearly purple-y blue on walls, tray ceiling, and angles of the tray)
    • Athens Blue in the Dining Room. (as close to cobalt as I could get)
    • Bayberry Blue (a turquoise blue that coordinates with the iridescent blue flecks of the granite countertops) in the kitchen and Paddington Blue (a shade darker, to accent the lack of natural light) in the hallway.
    • Peacock Blue (which is a
    • You remind me of someone I know... do you feel a need to name your children 9 names each, the boy having mostly blue names and the girl mostly purple?

Of note, Azzurro's name was originally going to be "Blue." That's right, just Blue, no middle name, no last name. Kinda like Cher, only younger, however since he is potty training they both probably wear about the same amount of clothes. I've heard Teller (of Penn and Teller) is one of very few people to have just one name on his Passport, now there's some
      • No, sir, I am NOT your sister. Don't you think you would have known by now if I were? :-)

I do admit to having a preference for somewhat unusual names (having grown up with the name of Bethanie, I feel that having a fairly unique name helps contribute to one's sense of individuality). But my husband will also keep me in check; he's really stodgy.

        ....Bethanie....
        • When my sister was in the whom there was talk of naming her Bethanne or Bethanie, but my parents opted for "Beth Ann" as two seperate words. You never know when someone might dig out a name they were supposed to bed... but I knew you weren't her since she's the purple obsessed one and he's the blue obsessed one.

I won't even touch the "fairly unique" that you said =^)
    • my fiancee also loves blue.

since you seem to be an afficianado of the color, what is your favorite blue? my favorite blue is cobalt blue. ultramarine is nice for mixing, but cobalt is my favorite for looking at. (ultramarine is synthetic lapis lazuli).
      • Well, since I have 9 colors in my house, I think it should be obvious that I have a hard time choosing a favorite, no?

It would have to be between cobalt and lapis (or at least what's called lapis by Benjamin Moore) -- from bright blue to the purpley/periwinkley blue (but not pastel).

If that narrows it down enough....

        ....Bethanie....
    • Oh, and there was one that came out in 1992 about Christopher Columbus (there were actually 3 on the same subject that all came out at once) that was REALLY REALLY bad. I think it was called 1492.

I remember that flic! Though, I saw one of the other Christopher Columbus movies that was out at the same time. It was "Christopher Columbus: The Discovery" and had Marlon Brando and Tom Selleck (as the King). That's about all I remember, as it was a pretty crappy movie. I think my then girlfriend and I just en

  • Favorite color? Black.

favorite bad movie? Monty Python and the search for the Holy Grail. (Any move that doesn't end because the producers thought it was going to bomb is automatically a "bad movie.")

As for freaks... wow, I didn't know that they were a measure of being somebody or not. I've got 46 of the buggers. (Course, all this fame hasn't got me more than some odd traffic on my website. :) Go figure.)
    • i am really lacking in my python lore. i didn't know the reason for the ending. i just figured they'd run out of ideas.

black is my favorite color to wear. i still like looking at yellow. sometimes i'll wear it, but it's so loud. i don't want to stand out like that every day.

oh, and i wasn't serious about using freaks as a measure of worth. as i said somewhere else, it's more the honor of knowing someone feels strongly enough about you to ignore you that actively.
  • I originally friended him since he had an opinion. He then fanned me. I then unfriended him after two things:

    i. I broke his "profanity" policy. I used a dirty word in his presence. So he instantly defanned me.

ii. He has an opinion but is too insecure/shallow/busy/weak to defend it. So he instead foes everyone who disagrees with some velocity. What a childishly self-centered view of the world. I've had some great debates on /. (I've also received some flames). That would be impossible if I instan

    • this is why i enjoy reading your stuff. you've got strong opinions and you back them up. but what distinguishes it for me is the take it or leave it your undertone. it comes off as, "i feel this way and i think i'm right," instead of, "anyone who has a different opinion is a jerk," or even, "i refuse to acknowledge that which challenges me."

from your list, i've only seen one movie. it's the one you hated but i enjoyed.
      • Well I think that arguing and opinion (i.e. subjectivity) are so closely bound as to be indistinguishable. You can't make a real argument without making some assumptions and many of those are unobjective as hell. It isn't like we are all talking about the sum of the first 50 prime numbers, the real world is plagued with a lack of absolutes.

Maybe it's all the PKD or Roger Ebert (who has a similar view of reviewing movies), but perspective is a large part of any argument. That is the problem with Chacham'
        • you mean philosophy is open to opinion? wierd. i don't think my freak gets that. it seems that to him another person's philosophy is right or wrong.

ok enough of that. what i meant with you is that you don't mix words about how you feel, but you leave room for the other person to do the same instead of immediately writing off whatever they say.
  • ...colour: Blue ...bad movie: Hudson Hawk. I still do not understand why this movie bombed at the box office - it was a great laugh!
  • he has quite a few people I know on both his friend and foe lists.

fav color is green for sure
fav bad movie would be Wild Wild West
  • Admit it--you're quite proud of your achievement. I've been following your links on the whole affair and now it seems to me that being on Chacham's foe-list is some kind of fashion statement.

I put people on my foe list when they behave badly (in my opinion, of course) in story comments, but I'm not very active about the whole thing. Thus I have only eight foes and one of them is my freak.

    Favourite colour: Blue
Favourite 'bad' movie: Kevin Smith's oeuvre after Clerks. They're not bad as such, but he is a
    • i knew it was bound to happen. i've tried to have discussions with him, but he really is more interested in disagreeing than understanding in my opinion. he can have some insights, but he is also pretty stubborn.

i've been tempted to troll for his foeing me before, but couldn't bring myself to be mean to him just for the sake of getting him to be my freak. so instead i went with honesty. i figure if people don't like that, i don't really mind if they foe me.

i was reading bethanie's JE on the subject an
      • i've tried to have discussions with him, but he really is more interested in disagreeing than understanding in my opinion. he can have some insights, but he is also pretty stubborn.

In the last years I had to accept that there is no way to 'win' an argument against someone whose viewpoint is too far opposite my own. You can only shift a position that is rather close to begin with. Some people are contrarian on purpose (which is, after all, a near perfect definition for flamebait [slashdot.org]). This can be quite inter
        • >i've tried to have discussions with him, but he really is more interested in disagreeing than understanding in my opinion.

          A true P vantage point. :)

Wanting for all vantage points to be expressed, and the truth to come out by itself, through an understanding of them all. As a J, i find that very hard to practice. Instead, each point is brought up, and argued against to see if it passes muster.

there is no way to 'win' an argument against someone whose viewpoint is too far opposite my own.

          • even though you didn't reply directly to me, i had to reply to you. i just wanted to let you know i respect you for reading anything in this journal at all. whether you read my comments, i'll probably never know for sure. but at least you stopped by to see this collection of comments of people you don't like.
          • on a less positive note, why not comment on my statements to me instead of sebi? it is easy to interpret this as either a)arrogant, b)cowardly, or c)both. at least i let you know what i was feeling and saying directly.
          • I have no idea who made this statement, but I guess I should be thankful for it. :)

subgeek. [slashdot.org] He made all statements that were in italics in my original post. Could you explain the following abbreviations?

            P
            J
            INTJ

            Thanks.
            • Check out the MBTI. Just search Google for it.

P/J are the last letter, and it stands for "Percieving" or "Judging". It specifies with of the middle two letters are used for the outer world. The second letter being P, and the third being J. Or, in other words, when dealing with the "outside" world, does one prefer to accept information or prefer to make judgements upon information already percieved.

The best definition is in Gifts Differing [amazon.com] since it actually defines it all. Another good book is Please Under [keirsey.com]
              • Ah. Okay. I see. Well--sounds complicated. I had to take an IQ test recently, to help a friend [slashdot.org] (dirty language inside), and that was the last standardised test I will partake in for the foreseeable future. So I'll have to pass on knowing about (or discussing) personality types.
    • it seems to me that being on Chacham's foe-list is some kind of fashion statement.

Hmm.. think I can start charging? :)
      • Hmm.. think I can start charging? :)

Sure. 'Pay me a Euro and I'll make you my foe!" Who could resist? On the other hand things stop being fashion statements and start being fads as soon as money is involved...
        • things stop being fashion statements and start being fads as soon as money is involved.

          Interesting thought.

Though, cars would seem to prove otherwise.
          • Though, cars would seem to prove otherwise.

Having neither a car, a drivers license or any interest in them I can't comment. I am aware that there are different kinds of cars and that I have to avoid getting ran over by them. The only cars I'm interested in are the ones no normal person will ever drive. [williamsf1.com]
  • My freaks list is still so static. New fans pop on from week to week, but few new freaks :(
  • Favorite color: Aqua/Teal/color of the Atlantic Ocean. You get the idea.

Favorite bad movie: Is "Weird Science" a bad movie? I have to agree with the others about "Dude, where's my car?"- I have never felt such a sense of self-loathing as when I enjoyed a goodly portion of that movie.

Member of Chacham Foe Club: Damn skippy.
    • i think wierd science definately qualifies.

i have a friend who i think would enjoy dude where's my car, but i can't get him to watch it. that's ok. he doesn't need the anguish and self searching that goes along with enjoying that movie.
  • No foes, no freaks... though I've been accused of being a freak before...

    what is your favorite color?

Uh... green? Though, according to Erika's Feng Shui book, my lucky color is yellow. So maybe I should change my favorite color...

what is your favorite bad movie?

I'd say GhostBusters, except that it's not a bad movie. It's an awesome movie. Really, destined to become a classic. It's so underappreciated.

  • I stumbled crossed this JE a few days ago and then couldn't remember where it was, took a while to find it again.

Movie: I saw several "bad" movies that are in my collection and just wanted to add The Pirate Movie. [imdb.com] It is a campy parody of several 40-50s era pirate movies and The Pirates of Penzance with a few modern movie references thrown in. Color: green [the darker the better].

    • stop in any time you want...or don't. whatever suits your fancy. i too like the pirate movie. though i haven't seen it in years. for a few seconds after i saw the title, i was thinking of another campy movie called ice pirates, but then i read your description and remembered the proper film. it's a beach party, and i'm frankie avalon.

i think i'm going to go see pirates of the carribean tonight. it has some potential as it combines two genres i enjoy: pirate movies and zombie movies. if it's no good

Would you people stop playing these stupid games?!?!?!!!!
