..to computers that don't have any antivirus software on. Same with Defender too...
Although AVG and other free antivirus tools are pretty good, a lot of people never think about actually getting and installing them.
I didn't say i actually liked Apple Update just that it was better than Googles:)
I don't like being recommended iTunes or Quicktime, my main point was that it is easy to remove via Add/Remove and that it is does appear in the Scheduled Tasks.
Most (all?) of the separate update programs (google, apple, java, adobe) are pains.
"Unfortunately, the service has many bugs, it can't be disabled unless you uninstall all the applications that use it and there are some privacy issues"
I would prefer it if they fixed Google Update instead of releasing the source. Making it optional and easy to remove would be a good start. Amazingly Apple Update works better and most Apple software on windows, besides Safari, is lousy...

Odelia Lee writes with a full review of Dell's new Adamo slimtop over at Gizmodo. While it may have an sleek exterior there are definite gaps (both literal and figurative) in their engineering. "The Adamo is both a compliment and an insult to Dell engineering. It's possibly the most beautiful computer Dell has ever manufactured, but I'm not sure that Dell has caught up to competitors in either aesthetics or power. There have been lots of qualitative Adamo reviews out there, but we got the first of the units that will actually ship to customers, so it's time for real benchmarks. As it happens, performance is really what's at stake here."
PSPad for windows is very good and i don't think has been mentioned yet. As well as hightlighting, it has a lot of other handy tools such as spellchecker, colour picker, code explorer and hex editting.
I've never heard of these people but giving away free versions is more likely to get people buying full versions.
I would think tools is the one area where companies can make money, Adobes tools for Flash spring to mind...
