Journal shankar2k's Journal: I'm Off! 4
At 12:00 noon today, I will be flying to Beijing for the 2005 International Conference on Computer Vision. My research group submitted four papers to the conferences, and three papers were accepted, and of those I am the first author on one and second author on another! The paper that I'm first author for is called Segmentation of Hybrid Motions via Hybrid Quadratic Surface Analysis, and it was accepted for oral presentation. That means I get to give a talk to the whole conference about it. It turns out that my talk is the first talk of the entire conference! So that means probably everyone attending the conference will be there, and they will probably be very alert and attentive. No pressure!
The truth is, I've never been more nervous about something in my life. Nope, not even the Qualifying Exam or my Master's Thesis. I've never any good at public speaking, and it just gives me the jibblies. Apparently, I'm not as bad at it as I think. What makes it difficult is I've been studying this work for over a year, and yet I have to make an audience of over five hundred understand the key ideas in twenty minutes. So I have to be thorough, yet, concise, while being intuitive and not talking too fast. Whew!
It's a good thing overall though. That which doesn't kill you
Oh yeah, if you want to see some really complicated equations, and some pretty pictures, check out my presentation. If you find any typos, e-mail me immediately!
