Comment Die against family's wishes... (Score 2) 80

I'm Canadian - Assisted Dying is has become 4th most likely cause of death in this country and about to become the 3rd most likely cause for all ages. It has reduced health care burden, and death is a quick way out when the social health care can't keep up with our again population. Thorny for recent cases where children are finding ways to die against the wishes of their parents, or siblings. There are real legal cases of this. For example https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada... Overall, it's disgusting. My sister worked in palliative care in Montreal, Quebec and had to quit because once MAID was introduced the entire culture and ethos around dying shifted. I don't believe we (including ourselves) have the right to choose when we live or die.

I have a claim of over $50,000 USD with Celsius - mostly in USDT because I was trying to gain interest with a firm that claimed to be "safer than a bank" without the risk of crypto volatility. Big mistake. I will never trust exchanges again. Much the pool has been eaten away due to the exorbitant lawyer costs involved in processing such a massive case. :-(

Comment Off the Grid (Score 2, Interesting) 217

I thought renewables were promising until I tried living off the grid in a northern climate. Forget it! Despite multiple massive solar panels and huge battery systems the house can barely muster enough electricity to keep the 800W blower fans on the oil furnace running alongside the refrigerator - especially when you only have 10 hours of overcast sky. Abundant wood and lots of oil to the rescue. I can't imagine trying to run the property off solar and wind alone without a huge amount of fancy equipment, massive batteries, and large wind turbines.

Comment Canada's government want to re-rank content also (Score 1) 36

The Canadian Liberal government is also trying to push C-11 to give it special powers to censor either "shadow ban" or "uprank" media content on Facebook, YouTube, and other platforms. It's somewhat frightening because it will effectively give it direct power to sort and thus largely control the media content that millions of people consume so that it can reinforce its own narrative and priorities - similar to what it's already doing with the taxpayer-funded CBC News. Comment Diversity = Profit? (Score 5, Interesting) 310

Our company almost lost a 300k annual contract because we nearly failed to uphold New York state's new diversity rules for contractor obligation. The reason why diverse workforces result in "growing profits" is mostly because if you fail to meet the diversity requirements of the contracts you a bidding on - you will lose out. This forces companies to demonstrate "DEI" or seek to attain "MWBE" (Women and Minority-Owned Business) certification. I know software contractors who can far more easily get Canadian liberal government software contracts if they can demonstrate they have a high concentration of LGBTQiA2+ members on their software team. Thus the "diversity" cause is heavily cyclical. (In our case, we had to fire a woman Project Manager in order to subcontract the work to a middle-aged white man who was subcontracted by a MWBE-certified New-York state business. We paid top dollar and the individual had almost no work to do. We paid to "check the box" because our hands were tied.) Diversity is good for cultural strength and multiple perspectives, but "affirmative action" creates a culture that elevates race and sexual orientation above actual skill and hard work. That will destroy the ethos of productivity and replace it with hollow displays of "compassion" and various forms of virtue signaling.

Comment Pie charts on race of employees (Score 2, Interesting) 310

The other day our company showed us pie charts of the employees based on their race, religion, and sexual preferences. In the next sentence they said "we need to improve those numbers". Huh? And how exactly do you plan on doing it? Affirmative action for one characteristic will always result in discrimination against another characteristic. The focus must be "fit for the job"; nothing else.

There are a lot of wild views out there - especially from the state-funded CBC News. Some of the best raw sources are YouTuber "Viva Frei" - who has dozens of hours of unedited footage of the protest and people.
