Submission + - Record setting 100+ T magnetic field achieved at Los Alamos (youtube.com) 1

schrodingersGato writes: Researchers at the Los Alamos campus of the NHMFL achieved a record setting 100.75 Tesla (albeit briefly lived) magnetic field. To do this, scientists placed a resistive magnet (a sophisticated electromagnet) coupled to massive bank of capacitors within another magnet fixed at a "lower" magnetic field. A short lived pulse reaching over 1.5-4million times Earth's magnetic field was generated. This beast of a magnet makes an eery sound as it is energized. Prepare for the birth of Magneto!
