Comment Those Are Not Life Changing Numbers (Score 2) 130

While this is interesting, those numbers aren't going to let me stop taking my statin, even if I started having 3 drinks per day.

So, it's worse than the toxic effects. There really isn't an upside here regarding cholesterol. I guess it could have come out that it made them worse, so there's that.

We literally just had a new multi-stage (2 for AC and variable for gas) unit installed. In many of those states, you'll still need a supplemental gas unit for the many days and nights when the heat pump just won't cut it. If there had been a significant incentive, we'd have given it more consideration. One thing our state does give incentive for is insulation. Our attic is going from R13 to R38 next week, partially paid for by our state.

Ok, I can get why it might sound bad on a phone or a TV with rear facing speakers. But on a system with an acoustically transparent screen and the three high fidelity front speakers behind the screen? And plenty of movies and shows do not have the problem. Just like with the "loudness wars" in audio, I suspect the problem is the humans in charge of mixing and mastering. I wish they'd just try harder.

And yes, guilty here of turning on the closed captions so we know what they're saying.

"Upgrade every machine" means upgrade the Linux on it, not upgrade the actual hardware. Yes, that perhaps could have been worded more clearly. So, they're upgrading to the supported version to stay in support. (Just keepin' it real here: I keep an unsupported Windows 7 box around because it can still see SMB 1 shares of logs on our way-out-of-support Red Hat servers. Sec Eng folks "see" and and ask about it every few weeks and let me keep it so I can see the logs. The Red Hat boxes are upgrading next month, though and I'll gladly shut it down. Yay!)

What's with some people who see "pedophilia" everywhere? Where does that come from?

I can't tell if you're truly ignorant of the very real issues with this at reddit t the time, or if you're one of them gaslighting here, or something else entirely. Since you replied to my post and are clearly referring to me, what evidence do you have that I "see 'pedophilia' everywhere?"

Comment Reddit Founders Do Not Care (Score 1) 334

I was an early redditor who liked and participated in a few subreddits. As I watched their defensive posture over the pedophilia being enabled and supported by their platform, I realized I could no longer be a part of it. I see this as proof that this leopard has not changed its spots at all.

They eventually caved in to pressure (and maybe just a little fear of finding themselves regulated - my own non-omniscient pontification there), but it was clear that it was not out of any sense of responsibility to the world community.

I buy CDs and rip to a lossless format or purchase music from HD sources (e.g.: HDTracks) then play it all with Plex. I'd use Sonos, but the player is $350 and doesn't seem all that great.

There is a CD in my car player right now.

My son's 6 CD changer in his car is full, and he also streams with Spotify.

Is this what you're asking?

Comment Re:Or maybe it's not a tech problem? (Score 1) 122

It's not a tech problem, but it is a character problem. The reddit folks didn't ban this because they cared about the victims. They did it because of public pressure.

Tumblr (and previously reddit) could have taken a stand that the victims' rights outweighed the posters' rights and gained some respect. Could have.

Of course it doesn't make it go away. But it could remove one "legitimate" (ok, it's Tumblr) source of implied approval.
