Do the competitors have end to end encryption, I.e. Facebook chat, Google Meet, Skype, etc? If so, why not just use those? If not, why pick on Zoom?

If I was concerned about privacy, I wouldn't be on the internet at all (I have little doubt that government agencies are capable of monitoring all internet traffic and are archiving it somewhere). I wouldn't even go outside (cos of CCTV), in fact my life would be pretty dull and boring.
If the government want my data, then they are going to find a way to get it no matter what lengths I go to to hide it. I might as well make it easier, so they can spend all the tax they get out of me on something more useful, like a decent health service. Anyway they are probably going to be more suspicious of me if I do go to lengths to hide data, than if I just happily follow the sheep.

This would allow Google to grow its user base rapidly (Google is a distant third with 51M users compared to Yahoo's 250M and Hotmail's 228M). There are some obvious benefits to end users — Google is offering ISPs mailboxes of up to 10GB per user. APCMag.com has posted an interesting piece looking at the dark side of Google's offer. Not least is in its reinforcing of the attachment people have to their ISP's email address, making it harder to change ISPs if a better deal comes along."

This has serious implications for e-commerce websites whose functionality might be affected by any bugs in the software. Also to have end users suddenly using a new browser right before the holiday shopping season could magnify the cost any bugs that might create a bad user experience on sites."

iamjoltman writes "I've been looking to replace the McAfee anti-virus on my parent's XP machine. So, I've been looking at the three free anti-virus choices, AVG Free Edition, avast! Home Edition and AntiVir Personal Edition. I know there are other options, but I believe any others are only on-demand scanners, and that's not an option. So, what does the Slashdot crowd think is the best of these choices? Keep in mind, I'm only looking in anti-virus, I'll go elsewhere for firewall or malware protection."
