In my experience, there are a significant portion of "foreign nationals" who work in the US that are supported by outside teams. I've worked with folks who admitted to hiring "consultants" to write their code, write their presentation, etc... So they always look so much better than the next guy, get promoted, and seemingly perform miracles. Chances are this guy has dozens of low-level engineers, maybe PhDs working for him from other countries. He sent them code bases, specs, or anything else so they can do his work for him. They had better trace this and figure out how deep the rabbit hole goes. Also find out who of his "friends" are in on the act.

Just realized this is so much like that Happy Days episode where jumping the shark came from. It looked cool - but it showed everything was downhill from here.

So the title should be "managers" but slashdot wont allow me to change it. This is a problem across the industry. It doesn't matter the geo. Some of the best managers I've worked with have been Indian.

It's supposed to be a free and open market. So how the f is the US supposed to compete if we alienate/isolate ourselves from everyone else?!?!

There are thousands of corporate bots astroturfing media sites like nextdoor, facebook and what not to promote data centers. You complain about water use, electricity, and noise (especially the noise!) they jump on you saying how great datacenters are for taxes, and other items that have no benefit to a community.

They had a headstart over everyone else for many years with co-pilot. Yet, they followed the exact same recipe that f'd up their web browser many years ago by integrating co-pilot too deeply into their OS. It's crazy how a company like this can mess up so much yet still be succesful.

Both openAI and anthropic seem to have incompetents running their tech teams. There is absolutely no way that senior IT professionals with even a moderate of understanding of security moats/walls and especially tripwire triggers wouldn't be able to contain AI. Hell, worst-case you cold sandbox it and drip feed an internet connection. These people are just hiring in their village and are clueless as to what it to takes to build a safe frontier LLM. Worse, most dont even know how to develop code and are just having AI do it all for them.
