Journal Journal: Antartic Peninsula May Lose Largest Ice Chunk Yet
According to the BBC, some researches believe global warming may be causing a 25-mile-by-1.6-mile chunk of the Wilkins Ice Shelf to break away from the Antarctic Peninsula. "The Wilkins Ice Shelf is the largest ice shelf...yet to be threatened." Other researchers believe the ice shelf may hold on a little longer, as it is protected by a thin strip of ice between two islands, and the Antarctic summer is ending. Because the ice shelf is floating on water, its collapse would have no effect on global sea levels.
