I listened to the YT clip: - One locomotive was connected to the local secondary school. This is a big school for this city, and I assume was used as an emergency shelter at the time. - The other locomotive, the one that ran on the streets, was connected to 3 buildings: city hall, police station and CLSC (kind of urgent care facility for you Americans...)

Boost 1.36 Released 166

AndrewStephens writes "Good news for C++ programmers: Boost 1.36 has been released with 4 new libraries (including very useful exception templates) and a host of updates. In particular, boost.asio (the cross platform AsyncIO library) has seen major additions and now supports asynchronous disk operations on Windows. Almost every modern C++ codebase uses Boost somewhere, and many of its features find their way into the official language specifications."

Wii 'Popularity Bubble' to Burst? 426

A combination of industry and developer observations has prompted Tech.co.uk to wonder if the Wii's overwhelming popularity is due to end sometime soon. This is based on a report from Japanese business newspaper The Nikkei, which published an article recently entitled 'Software Houses Miscalculate Audience, Demand For Wii'. "The report goes on to discuss the likelihood that many Wiis are gathering dust in owners' cupboards, citing one software house president as saying, 'People bought it out of curiosity, and it's likely a lot of them haven't used it.' Given that September saw Wii sales fall sharply in Japan for the second consecutive month, it seems reasonable to speculate that the bubble inflated by the novelty factor is starting to deflate, but writing Nintendo off at any stage is a perilous course to steer." Is this just worrying, or is there validity to this?

Peter Norton showed a few laptop adapters (to charge bateries on 12v) and some inverters (12v to 110v).

For my personal usage (RV & travel) I will select the inverter, I just think it's more versatile. You can plug a boombox, recharge your GPS, recharge your cell phone, your PDA,... You just don't need to purchase a bunch of adapters.

Without an inverter I would be very afraid of the 'quality' of the electricity.
