Journal Journal: Problem with Netbios is fixed

I enabled comments...didn't know that was a requirement. With the help of a programmer we managed to connect our peer to peer computer through the router to the cable modem and the internet. No Netbios! What a relief! I can only imagine the mess that other users create when they try to connect using the default settings in Microsoft OS. Now, however, we are using Netbeui to exchange files on the peer to peer network. Another wizard has assured me that is not secure either??? I'm still looking

Journal Journal: Netbios and Port 1723 security risk in Windows 2000

Netbios should not be used to connect two or more computers peer to peer using Win2K through a router, nor for connecting to the internet. Big security risk, say those in the know. However, these same people cannot tell me how to connect without using Netbios. With Netbios disabled our two computers can talk to each other through the SMC router, but cannot connect to the internet. So, netbios is on and our security is shabby. I found a hacker who has contributed some code to the kernel development. When I asked him to explain his contribution, he smiled and started talking. The words went in one ear and off a duck's back, but I was impressed that a mere mortal could be in front of me and talking about this esoteric topic. It's definitely worth persuing.
