Comment cdromupgrade (Score 1) 529

I upgraded two systems ok and my laptop will be next.

I downloaded the ISO because I had more than one machine to upgrade and thought it would be nice to have the CD around for sharing with newbies.

I ran "sudo bash /cdrom/cdromupgrade" and it asks if you would like to use the network which I thought was cool because if there happens to be slightly newer packages out it can incorporate them immediately. Great.

I expected it to whiz through and pick up most deb's from the CD, but the curious thing is that it seemed to prefer to download them. I have no idea why, but the upgrades did work.

They WILL shut you down if you're unintentionally/unknowingly also broadcasting noise on other spectrums, especially air traffic related bands, regardless of whether you picked a frequency not currently occupied by any other radio station. Unless you've got a radio spectrum analyzer and thoroughly tested all the surrounding frequencies for differences between when your equipment is on or off, you'd probably never know that you were interfering with some other range until they came to pay you a visit...

Right, but people were able to zap each other with electricity and make sparks and move compass needles and produce all sorts of other visible effects with electricity, even though they didn't understand the full nature of it. These new experiments are designed to try to detect gravity waves, because we haven't seen any evidence of their existence up until this point. (They've only be theorized.)

It's like saying the Navy is researching how to use the body of the Loch Ness Monster to power their aircraft carriers. Shouldn't the first step be to actually prove such a creature exists, and I don't know, maybe capture one too?? How far into your research can you really get when you haven't completed Step 1 yet? :-)
