Submission + - Best "Windows Registry Cleaner" type program, if t (slashdot.org)

the_REAL_sam writes: For Ask Slashdot: The first time I ever saw a commercial for "windows registry cleaning" software, I laughed... but upon reflection the registry is a huge file that is constantly being edited as windows software is added/removed ... so it seems to me that the registry could have stranded references, etc... that thought changed my mind about the theory behind the idea of a registry cleaner... however I am still mistrustful and would like to know if there is any worthwhile implementation (best one), hopefully also free, reliable and trustworthy.

Submission + - Biodegradable, biocompatible "Shrilk" is a potenti (gizmag.com)

cylonlover writes: Arthropods — that's spiders, insects and crustaceans, have provided inspiration for a new material that is cheap to produce, biodegradable, and biocompatible. Its creators say the material, dubbed "Shrilk," has the potential to replace plastics in consumer products and could also be used safely in a variety of medical applications, such as suturing wounds or serving as scaffolding for tissue regeneration.

I'm running a Dell C640 (a five-year-old laptop, 1.8Ghz CPU, 768Mb RAM) with Ubuntu 8.04. When I switch from Firefox to Amarok to Nautilus to Bluefish, I get to watch each application repaint each part of their UI piece by piece.

Do I need to spend $3K to have these "full speed" screen repaints you speak of? Or, since Ubuntu blacklisted Compiz from working most mobile ATI cards because of problems with a few models instead of fixing the problem, is 2D performance actually important?

Submission + - Schools across Japan may switch to Linux

Chris Salzberg writes: "Japan's public broadcaster NHK reported late last week that the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry plans to introduce the open-source operating system Linux for use within classrooms across the country in the near future. According to an investigation conducted in the spring of last year, there are currently over 400,000 computers at schools in Japan running on either Windows 98 or Windows Me, systems no longer supported by the software manufacturer Microsoft. The prohibitive cost of replacing these machines with newer models, as well as the rising price of proprietary software, prompted school teachers and administrators to propose the possibility of switching to open-source software as an affordable alternative. A conference held in Tokyo on March 2-3, attended by around 2000 government officials, teachers and education board members from across the country, considered the idea of reclaiming these older computers by switching from unsupported and out-of-date versions of Windows to the operating-system Linux, which can be freely downloaded from the Internet. A teacher from a high-school in Fukuoka Prefecture explained: "Having to always install the latest software is costly, and it makes things very difficult for us. From now on, I want to actively move toward the use of free open-source software." (continue reading at gyaku.jp)"

Oath of Poverty?

The New Testament says (in multiple places) that the wealthy are not going to reach heaven.

However, the OLD TESTAMENT SEEMS TO CONDONE WEALTH. (and tithes, charity)

Journal Journal: How Jesus Said to "Walk"

Good LORD! If this is the only way then I don't know how anybody's gonna get to heaven. I'll pray and ask if the LORD if he wanted only the first disciples to walk that way, or if it was planned for EVERY Christian. Well. Can you imagine living life that way?

Journal Journal: A VERY BRIEF account of the Gospel.

Specifics of the Gospel:
Around the time of 0 AD, The LORD was looking for someone to fill the role of "sacrificial lamb" for man kind. He looked over the entire earth and didn't find even ONE person who was pure enough to fill the role. So he sent his holy spirit to the womb of the virgin Mary, and Jesus Christ was conceived.

Journal Journal: What is Salvation, and How is it Acheived?

There is a long and short of the question and of the answer.

The EASIEST account: Salvation occurs when a person accepts the fact that Jesus Christ was the Son of God, and that he died on the cross in order to win forgiveness for the sins of all mankind.

Journal Journal: Repentance From Sin

I've Heard some people try to make the claim that since Jesus died on the cross we no longer need to keep the commandments or the law. IT IS SIMPLY NOT TRUE.
Jesus instructed his apostles NOT TO SIN, and he, of all people, knew of the role he was going to fill [with regard to salvation].

Matthew 6:9

9After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
