Everyone thinks of the three laws but nobody stopped to think that they would effectively be trained lawyers too. Any loophole or excuse can be taken without explicitly breaking the rules through selective interpretation.

I don't think that's what this means, though I'm not creating an account to read the full article. It identifies marks like bumper stickers in *addition* to the license plate. So even if you miss the plates (or the suspect changes plates), you can identify it by other means. This would be like identifying a person by tattoos when you can't get a good photo of their face.

There would have to be FCC filings. It wouldn't be an actual secret. Usually journalists pick up on these sorts of things because FCC filings are a way to get a scoop on upcoming products before they are announced.

They can justify it by saying that's how they show the discovered sources/sinks in the companion app on your phone. Whether that's even a reason or not, I have no idea.

Having real alpha without requiring lossless photos is probably the big benefit on the web as far as file size. But this format seems like a kitchen sink. It might as well not be named JPEG-XL and be named WebP-XL considering the feature overlap.

As an American Netflix user, I fully support it. It helps that Netflix tends to buy out worldwide streaming rights on the shows they produce, so I just have access to content from more places.
