nizo's Journal: Neighbor dog part 2 and evil plans for loud neighbors

Ok so I finally got to meet our neighbor with the dog that jumped over our fence; apparently she has an invisible fence already installed (due to the dog jumping into another neighbors yard already) but just didn't have it on. She seemed like a reasonable and responsible dog owner, so I am hoping for no more unwanted dog visitors in our back yard. I actually petted the dog and haven't seen it since, so we shall see.

However, on a fairly regular basis a "neighbor of a neighbor" has an annoying habit of sitting in his car and blasting his radio (one of the kids it looks like) plus his friends drive up and do the same thing; sort of a really obnoxious "battle of the bases" competition. Apparently neighbors have complained, so I will probably take this opportunity to get them all organized and get them all to complain until they stop this obnoxious behavior. If that doesn't work, I am considering lobbing stink bombs at them when they do this, or maybe even using a modified one of these: http://amasci.com/amateur/vortgen.html. I am thinking it might be possible to make it less obtrusive than a stink bomb, especially if I can rig up some kind of remote-control (muhahaha).

I am guessing that measurements of the decibles coupled with videotape of the offender will make it much easier to make this irritant go away.

A friend of mine was in a similar situation. He took a 100 linear amp and plugged a microphone into the line in and a directional antenna into the output. Aimed it at the offending stereo and the last thing they heard before their system blew was:

TURN THAT CRAP OFF!!!

Another option would be to hook up a gun mike and tweak the volume so that it creates feedback in their preamp if it is turned up too loud.

There may be better options now like a HERF gun, but the simplicity of what he did was wonderf

Umm... were they listening to the radio? Most of the people I know that listen to loud music in their driveways are listening to CDs. Or was it that they didn't use shielded cables and the wires running to the amps picked up his interference? Also, I'm pretty sure doing that is an FCC violation. And if you don't get caught, but the kids found out who did it, they probably wouldn't be too happy at losing thousands of dollars of equpiment and might retaliate.

The guy who did this said that the signal went straight into the preamp overvolting it. That is part of any audio system. Unless they have a faraday cage around their car it would theoretically work. He knew electronics and I don't so I am taking his word on how it happened.

Retaliation is one of many issues why I would never actually do this. That and the FCC. And morals.

Perhaps some squirrels can take care of the problem instead.

ahhhhhhh I would love to see some of those ricers in our apartment complex get hit with this. They don't generally have the loud music, but the peel and squeel at 1am in the parkinglot and have underage girls over drinking (yes they have already been busted for this once).

Become the obnoxious guy who they want to get as far away from as they can.

Hang out with them, monopolize their stories, bum their beer (or sodas) act like you're as cool as they are. It will annoy the hell out of them and they'll not want to hang out there anymore.

You could point out your an avid non discriminatory hunter , who has spent many years in the far east enjoying the cuisine and meats of which you can not normally obtain in your land. ;)
