5% are going to die? 40% going to get sick? These are crazy numbers pulled out of the asses of attention seeking media "scientists". 80,000 Cases of Coronavirus / 1.3 Billion Chinese = 0.006 % of Chinese people got Coronavirus. 3200 Deaths from Coronavirus / 1.3 Billion Chinese = 0.00024% of Chinese people died from Coronavirus. China early on dealt with this terribly and even if their numbers are faked by an order of 100, it's still a tiny miniscule fraction of the population got sick or died.

The smart thing to do is look at total cost of ownership. Compare a $45,000 Model 3 to a $35,000 Toyota Camry and then add in what it costs to own and drive it for 5-10 years. Gas, electricity, maintenance, insurance, depreciation etc... The data is already all out there and the Model 3 is cheaper than the Camry by quite a bit. The Model 3 is almost on par with a Honda Civic, which has one of the lowest total cost of ownership figures of any car out there, and of course the Model 3 is a much nicer car in almost every respect. If you're smart and look at the real price (TCO), the Model 3 is one of the best bargains in recent history.

Nissan left California in 2005/2006 because we are famously expensive as a state in which to operate a business.

I wish all the various media would stop putting out product announcements from manufacturers unless the manufacturer has at least a price estimate. The news/story is meaningless without a price.

Intel Takes SATA Performance Crown With X25-E SSD 164

theraindog writes "We've already seen Intel's first X25-M solid-state drive blow the doors off the competition, and now there's a new X25-E Extreme model that's even faster. This latest drive reads at 250MB/s, writes at 170MB/s, and offers ten times the lifespan of its predecessor, all while retaining Intel's wicked-fast storage controller and crafty Native Command Queuing support. The Extreme isn't cheap, of course, but The Tech Report's in-depth review of the drive suggests that if you consider its cost in terms of performance, the X25-E actually represents good value for demanding multi-user environments."

35 Articles of Impeachment Introduced Against Bush 1657

vsync64 writes "Last night, Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) spent 4 hours reading into the Congressional Record 35 articles of impeachment against George W. Bush. Interestingly, those articles (63-page PDF via Coral CDN) include not just complaints about signing statements and the war in Iraq, but also charges that the President "Sp[ied] on American Citizens, Without a Court-Ordered Warrant, in Violation of the Law and the Fourth Amendment,' 'Direct[ed] Telecommunications Companies to Create an Illegal and Unconstitutional Database of the Private Telephone Numbers and Emails of American Citizens,' and 'Tamper[ed] with Free and Fair Elections.' These are issues near and dear to the hearts of many here, so it's worth discussing. What little mainstream media coverage there is tends to be brief (USA Today, CBS News, UPI, AP, Reuters)." The (Democratic) House leadership has said that the idea of impeachment is "off the table." The Judiciary Committee has not acted on articles of impeachment against Vice President Cheney introduced by Kucinich a year ago.

Apple Patents 'Buy Stuff Wirelessly, Skip Lines' Tech 254

An anonymous reader writes "Apple is looking to patent a process that will save customers the hassle of waiting to order a cup of coffee at a local Starbucks. Even better: The technology would let you jump the line of those ordering in person. 'Customers might tap a button to order their favorite drink, say a double-shot mocha, as they stroll up to the nearest coffee shop. When the drink is ready go to, the device--such as an iPhone--would chime or blink to let the thirsty one know it's time to scoop up the order at the counter. The patent puts Apple's partnership with Starbucks in a new light. The technology promises to morph Apple from the business of simply selling gadgets and music and movies that can be played on those devices into an intermediary in all kinds of exchanges.'"

Native Windows PE File Loading on OS X? 397

ozmanjusri writes "Coders working on Wine for Mac have found that the Mac loader has gained its own undocumented ability to load and understand Windows Portable Executable (PE) files. They found PE loading capabilities in Leopard that weren't there in Tiger. Further dissection showed that Apple is masking references to 'Win' and 'PE' in the dll, which means it's not an accidental inclusion. Is Apple planning native PE execution within OS X?"
