Journal mskfisher's Journal: Prohibited Items on Airliners 6

Over Thanksgiving weekend, I went out shooting with my dad, my brother, and a bunch of guys from their church.
Long-range shooting, medium-range plinking, and some rapid-fire pistol practice. It was a good time.
I just got around to cleaning my pistol tonight.

In unrelated news, I'm flying to Saint Louis, MO in January.

Well, my idle brain combined the two and starting wondering if you could take a pistol on a flight in checked luggage. I didn't see any reason you couldn't, I'd just never followed through and found out for sure.

So I looked around on the TSA's website, and found a nice page on prohibited items. Well, I didn't care about carry-on items, so I dug a bit deeper and found the full list [PDF] of prohibited and allowed items.

Cool, I can bring my firearms with me. I'm not going to, this trip, but it's nice to know.

WAAIITT A SECOND. Look at that PDF's URL again.

INTERWEB?! WHAT IN THE FLYING FLAMING DOUG FLUTIE IS THAT?!

I've been using that term in mockery for YEARS and now it's showing up in government URLs?!

AAUUGH!

    • "Flying Flaming Doug Flutie" - rad. Reminds me of Slim Pickens' "What in the wide world o' sports is a-goin' on here?" :)

Necessity was the mother of invention on that one. :)

I had my little keyring swiss army knife taken from me when I went to DC in October. Lame. Totally. Lame.

When I went to San Francisco about 5 years ago, I brought a cheapo samurai sword with me for fun. I had it packed securely in a nice black box. On the way there, I checked it at the airline counter, no problem.
      On the way back,

  • My mother has a 9mm version of that gun.

  • Both 40 cal, the model 22 and the 27.

Incredibly reliable guns. I owned the model 22 since 1991 and have only had one jam and that was my fault. I didn't crimp the outside of my reload.
  • He fumbles a lot..... but flying and flaming?
