...it was called spyware, now it's just called Facebook.
It is critically important to understand that what we refer to as "meaning" derives from actual and perceived value of things to the object doing the perceiving. Can a machine with no agency, little or no senses, no self or sense of self be expected to experience our world and express human values as we do? Simply not possible without agency (the ability to act,) self (a body of some sort,) and sense of self (conscious sense of one's self as individually extant within a context.)
Simply, human higher-level consciousness is little more than a keep-alive language loop within a memory (short-term memory) that has input (sound and thought -- memory access) and output (sound and thought -- more memory access.) This can be replicated, but without agency, self, and sense of self there simply isn't any reason to place values and take meaning from anything, and artificially placing values for an A.I. won't have the desired results.

Shouldn't these server operators be held responsible for their negligence? This coming from a person who thinks people should be required to have a basic "operators license" to even access the internet.
My personal favorite in this regard: In Microsoft Windows desktop, right click on a USB drive to open the menu and it has "Format" right next to "Open" -- don't miss!
