I work as a Tech at a rather large highschool, and starting this year we have preloaded Firefox on all new issued laptops. every year I have worked here the vast majority of problems we deal with are spyware or virus based. (duh) and i have to say, now that we have switched, the total number of spyware related problems we have to deal with has dropped to half a dozen people a week (as compared to 10-20 a day)
anyway, just my $0.02

The thing with doctors is that it is generally easier to bring your body to the doctor's office than it might be to bring a desktop computer to a technician's office somewhere. I realize this isn't nescessarily the case with laptops, but it's more feasible than doctors making housecalls. Also, for a lot of the people I know, it is better for them not to have to unplug anything... ;) Who knows? Maybe technicians will go the way of doctors, working in a central building somewhere with people coming to them.

at long last a computer has been found to take the role of always on, remote access, super, ultra, learn to use linux box. the idea is pretty cool, it lets us mere mortals learn the basics without having to admin a computer and invaribly screw things up. not fun. anyway, the whole thing is supposted to be tucked away in the tech center and all us techs will have access to it. someday this might be written using linux. well its been done, but knoppix GUI dosnt really count. really. i watched Dan

well exams are upon us, an i continue the pointless tradition of writing in this journal that no one will ever look at, ever. yay me. well its not all bad, my roomate hasnt tried to kill me yet, thats always a good sign, but someone has to teach that kid that he just cant sing! every night is these absolutly horrible songs! sorry, had to get that out of my system. learned a new thing today, never put joke programs on the head techs computer if you value both you life and your internet connection

Long story short, I've had a good year. Great job, short commute, and dating again. I've become focused, but with great flexibility. I'm not sweating the big stuff, or the small stuff. The good stuff is in the middle.

American companies are moving tech jobs overseas to India [more info]. Why? Simple, it's all about money. But how is that so? The article says that Indian programmers make 1/10th that of American programmers. Why do they make so much less?
