I doubt its the latter Western corporations have a pretty good track record of owning new markets. "Thanks globalisation!" "Thanks Obama!"

Older people, disabled people, women, there's a long list, but the gist is that such changes could have a positive impact on any of us at any time in our lives and affect any of our family members. Or we could just leave grad school to the middle classes whose children gain admission through alumni credits and charitable donations. I'm sure someone will complain a few years down the line when Chinese, Indians, Nigerians etc start to dominate universities (they already have an outsize influence) about how they don't have 'real world' skills. I always refer back to the classic thought experiment (John Rawls), Veil of Ignorance in deciding whether something is just on not. Attempt by society to create equality of opportunity seem perfectly just to me.

Its not really enough to simply state: "I am a racist" It shows a lack of understanding of what racism actually is. You have made lots of assertions considering how little we know about this story. The idea that 'if I do the same job, I should get the same reward' is the kind of justice I think most people would struggle to not get behind. The challenge is pretty simple, the fact that management let it get this far shows that somebody made a discretionary decision that could not be defended. 'Racism' obviously makes people very defensive; there's no way to tell - but the treatment of the black gentleman was certainly prejudicial - and that should be enough without people getting into personal beef on the internet.

I agree. When you're already in the minority and you do everything you think you're supposed to do and you're still treated differently, that gives the sense that its because of your particular characteristics. I'm surprised that people defend it though. Prejudicial behaviour happens to women, disabled people, and older people especially in these environments. You'd think this would have touched every single person or someone they know. As soon as you say 'racist', it just brings out the worst in people. Shame. All these fights actually benefits all of us in the end...
