Yang wants to do that. Unless I'm remembering incorrectly, he wants to end welfare and a couple other social programs, and he wants to redirect 10% of military spending to infrastructure improvements. He also plans to tax a portion of the profit large tech companies are making from increased automation. I might have gotten some of this stuff slightly wrong, but you can take a look at his extensive policies at https://www.yang2020.com/polic... if you want to see what he's actually proposing.

Who gives a shit if they squander it? It's theirs. Also, how does squandering $1000 extra dollars on top of their previous income lead to skyrocketing crime and starvation? Sure, some people will use their UBI to buy drugs, just like they are currently using their welfare (if you think the fact that it's regulated means you can't use them to buy drugs you're out of your mind), and the people that use their money responsibly will continue to do so, except now they'll have more of it.

If we reduced our military spending by 70%, we would still outspend China by almost $25 billion dollars. China is not going to invade the United States, and you look silly for having suggested it. Also, if you were being serious about your fear of this happening if we lower our military budget, then I doubt you're smart enough to learn Mandarin anyway.

1. It's opt-in, so no, not everyone. 2. People already getting $1000 or more from disability or other payments do not qualify, so, again, not everyone. 3. Dependency is probably preferable to homelessness to the people that this is truly aimed at and designed to help. 4. You do not sound intelligent enough to have critically examined his ideas.

This argument is disingenuous, bordering on idiocy. First of all, Yang doesn't want to forgive student loans or make all universities tuition free. Nor does anyone want to anywhere near 100% of a company's revenue. You could have said, "$4.4t is a lot of money and I haven't read anything about Yang's ideas." and we all would have gotten the same information as we did from the nonsense you did write.

I like Yang because he is data driven and willing to try things that we haven't tried before, whereas most others want to pay lip service to change while maintaining the status quo. If Yang won, started his UBI plan, and it looked like it was going to be a complete failure, I believe he would scrap the idea as soon as possible and try something new. With any other politician, I believe they'd die on that hill. For example, imagine someone showed Trump incontrovertible evidence that building a wall would somehow actually cause even more illegal immigration. I firmly believe he would ignore that person and continue pushing the wall because it was his idea and he wants it to work.

Submission + - Discovery of a 'holy grail' with the invention of universal computer memory (sciencedaily.com)

Hrrrg writes: According to ScienceDaily.com:

"A new type of computer memory to solve the digital technology energy crisis has been invented and patented by scientists. The device is the realization of the decades long search for a 'Universal Memory' to replace the $100 billion market for Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) and flash drives. It promises to transform daily life with its ultra-low energy consumption, allowing computers which do not need to boot up and which could sleep between key strokes. "
