Comment Keyboard Attachments (Score 1) 417

There are several kiddie games that employ devices that you attach to your keyboard. I remember seeing a bob the builder one that had crane controls you clamped onto the keyboard. When the kid moves the crane controls, the device presses the proper keys on the keyboard underneath. I thought it was pretty ingenious. I know there are several games that use this system, but the only one I could find was Thomas & Friends.

Submission + - YouTube Granted Safe Harbor from Viacom (blogspot.com)

eldavojohn writes: It's an old case but there was an interesting development today when the judge ruled that YouTube is protected from Viacom by safe harbor of the DMCA since YouTube helps rights owners manage their rights online and works cooperatively with entities like Viacom. Google's calling it a victory but I'm not sure if Viacom will take this without a fight.

7th Graders Find Large Cave On Mars 139

A newly discovered cave on Mars was found as the result of an interesting crowdsourcing project. As EMB Numbers writes, "CNET news reports that 'the science class from Evergreen Middle School in Cottonwood, Calif., found the opening while working on a research project with the Mars Space Flight Facility run out of Arizona State University in Tempe. ... The students examined more than 200 images of Mars taken with the Thermal Emission Imaging System (Themis), an instrument on NASA's Mars Odyssey orbiter.' The only other similar opening near the volcano was found in 2007, when Glen Cushing, a scientist with the US Geological Survey, published a research paper on the surface anomalies. The opening is estimated to be 620 by 520 feet and the hole to be at least 380 feet deep."

Submission + - New Xbox 360 S Uses Less Power, Less Noisy (pcper.com)

Vigile writes: Microsoft unveiled a new Xbox 360 S console at E3 this month and without delay the new machine has been dissected and tested. The most dramatic change is the move to a single chip CPU/GPU hybrid processor that is apparently being built on the 45nm process technology from GlobalFoundries, AMD's spun-off production facilities. With the inclusion of the new processor the Xbox 360 S uses much less power (about 30-40%) compared to previous generation machines and also turns out to be much quieter as a result of a single, larger fan. PC Perspective has photographic evidence of the tear down with comparisons between this Valhalla platform and the older Falcon system along with videos of the reconstruction process and noise comparisons.

Comment Re:Oblivion didn't handle it wll at all. (Score 1) 476

I agree- I loved oblivion's quest lines, but I HATED the scaling. There was something wrong with the fact that I finished the main quest at level 4. I mean, level 10 or 20 would've been fine with me, but not 4. I thought oblivion focused MUCH less on sweet loot and exploration than Morrowind, but Oblivion had extremely well designed quest lines.
