F1 Students do OPT initially (at least STEM students do.)

The cool kids doing serious research do the Education excluded H1B (which has no cap.)

And of course if you are actually good, you can do O-1A.

I've always been a fan of the whole "just allow everyone with a degree" visa. That's what we do here (+ job sponsorship, but everyone needs a job, so ...)

They have intellectual property rights.

We generally have 3 kinds of people writing things where scripts make sense: Backend Developers, Sys Admins, and Devops Engineers. All three have their reasons for doing it, but generally it's FOR the Sys Admins to be able to use and edit as needed. This generally means it needs to be in "their" languages, Python, Shell, or JavaScript. We've found restricting everyone to Python works because EVERYONE can write in Python and restrict them to PyPy compatible Python.

With this, every thing runs faster than Perl and in some cases runs faster that basic C/C++ without trying too hard. If for some reason we want to GO FAST, we just run it through Shedskin and it will generally be as fast as it gets.

When you reach peak adoption OR the market is in "actual" saturation. I haven't seen either of those yet (as someone who does outside business IT consulting.)

What I have seen is that starting around Feb/March there seemed to be a lot of cooling among large enterprises that seems to have accelerated at certain types of business lines.

I assume they use it and then they stop using it. Which is what the Apollo charts showing the Census Data show pretty directly. Starting in June, the moving average began to decline.

We've seen a general decline as well at my large multi-national home away from home that unnecessarily causes me to have to walk for 15 minutes to get there after a 15 minute train ride ... It shouldn't be allowed any temp above 18.

The ship has sailed, it will just punish US companies, but hey - please do it.

We're seeing problems with AI and young hires, but the issue is less that they know how to "use it really well" but instead that at least a lot of interviewees seem to barely be able to NOT use it. AI has it's uses, but you still have to be able to write code.

Another factor at least locally is that we have a ton of ex-Microsoft, ex-Google, and similar people who are older, very skilled, and now want to work for a more stable companies. They are great even if I have to pay a little more.

So they still have "Credit Card Only" validation and since CC require 18+, it would be a valid option for some US sites.

When I'm in China (and not using VPN to my house), I never really notice things being blocked. I can order shit from Amazon.jp, I can access all the normal stuff I use except for YouTube.

I do normally just use VPN so that I still appear to be coming from home and every site doesn't rechallenge me.

It's a thing, people want to do it. You wanting to do it or not, meaningless. Do enough people do it so that DuoLingo makes money? Yes they do.

It is double the average salary.

The average is enormous and is more than double the average HOUSEHOLD income. Those are payroll salaries as well, many of the jobs come with equity that the government doesn't track. I've worked with 100s of H1Bs and never heard any of them complain about their pay.

The only real thing that truly sucks is that the visa is owned by the company instead of the person. If it was owned by the person, you'd see pay double. (Because pay is 100% really just about retention.)

Despite what the other person replying to you said, there's no real material change to how anything works and in reality, the pay situation has improved enormously - $96k minimum pay and $168k average pay. People act like they are using H1B visas to employ Amazon Warehouse employees.

The absolutely lowest anyone on H1B is paid currently is $96k US. The top SALARIES are a bit over $1mil US - those people of course are also being paid extensive equity packages as well. The average is $168k US. There's some depression of their pay vs Americans in the same roles, but again those roles generally lack sufficient people.

The real goal of the H1B Visa program is to encourage immigration of people who bring LOTS of value to the US.

The whole entire program is entire convoluted for no good reason. In my (now) home country, we have no limits on quantities, you only need two things: a sponsorship (job) and sufficient education (a 4 years equivalent degree). While you need sponsorship, after you are sponsored, you own your own visa and can leave the company and go somewhere else, so no H1B lock-in problems.

Weird, Nepal has higher rates than India.
