YouTube Is Down 152

A number of readers have noted that YouTube is currently giving back 400 and 502 http errors, and has apparently been doing so for an hour or more. I suggest you use this window of opportunity to get something done: the dancing kitties will still be there when you're done.

Submission + - Recommendations for C++/OpenGL Linux tutorials?

QuaveringGrape writes: After a few years of Python I've recently been trying to expand my programming knowledge into the realm of compiled languages. I started with C, then switched over to C++. A friend and longtime OpenGL programmer told me about NeHe's tutorials as a good step after the command-line programs started to get old, but there's a problem...all the tutorials are very Windows-based, and I've been using Linux as my single platform for a while now. I'm looking for suggestions for tutorials that are easy to learn, without being dumbed down or geared towards non-programmers.

What the hell has that got to do with anything...? Nice legal term, there, but the bottom line is... If I have to have that legalese apply to me in this manner, in this case... then I'll wait for another game from someone who will allow and/or encourage aftermarket tinkering... $54.99 (x4 kids + x1 copy for myself) is money I own, and I have EVERY right to spend it on whatever I want. get the hell off /. ya troll...

Surgeon Makes Tutorial DVD For Conscious Open-Heart Surgery 170

Lanxon writes "Swaroup Anand, 23, from Bangalore, was fully conscious as he underwent open-heart surgery. An epidural to the neck, administered at the city’s Wockhardt Hospital, numbed his body during the procedure. Dr Vivek Jawali pioneered the technique ten years ago and has recently released a tutorial on DVD, which gives a step-by-step guide to the procedure for other surgeons to watch and learn from."

Submission + - How to teach a 12 year-old to program? 9

thelordx writes: "I've got a much younger brother who I'd like to teach how to program. When I was younger, you'd often start off with something like BASIC or Apple BASIC, maybe move on to Pascal, and eventually get to C and Java. Is something like Pascal still a dominant teaching language? I'd love to get low-level with him, and I firmly believe that C is the best language to eventually learn, but I'm not sure how to get him there. Can anyone recommend a language I can start to teach him that is simple enough to learn quickly, but powerful enough to do interesting things and lead him down a path towards C/C++?"

Boo to the writer... or to the Europeans... which is it? So, like 2 years ago, when I launched my own consultancy, I also wanted to offer hosting. Like every other geek out there. I just remember that there was no way to get my own block from IANA/ICANN (whoever the he!! it was)... unless I had some insane amount like $2500 US. Anyone can confirm that? Did the price thing change? I just remember feeling cheated that an average Joe couldn't fill out the right paperwork and file a reasonable fee to get his small business started. He!!, for $2500, I could get a full business financed... when did it become illegal to be a lil ole small business guy? This is why all the shops just resorted to raping people... they can't win for losing.. so, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em... is that it? Is it easy to get a block from Europe? Perhaps I should cook up some elaborate scheme to VPN my European class B to my /28 here in TX... hmmm.... kc
