Submission + - Judge to SCO - quit whining, your chance is gone

chiark writes: "Back in the mists of time (June), the magistrate judge presiding over SCO vs IBM gutted SCO's claims back in June, as covered on /. SCO screamed "foul", appealed to the District Judge and today the judge has ruled against SCO succinctly and concisely affirming every point of the original damning judgement.

Also part of this ruling is the news that the Novell vs SCO trial will go first — "After deciding the pending dispositive motions in this case, and after deciding the dispositive motions in Novell, which should be fully briefed in May 2007, the court will set a trial date for any remaining claims in this action."

Interesting times for SCO and their legal team? I think so. Of interesting note is that the Judge conducted the review using more exhaustive standard than required out of "abundance of caution", and still found against SCO."

Submission + - Reality hits Sony

cdneng2 writes: Sony may be aware that something is just not right. There's a reshuffling of management occurring withing Sony. Kazuo Hirai is set to head their videogame unit. As well, on the same day, Namco just announced that they must sell 500,000 games to begin making profit on PS3 games. A Financial Times article confirms this speculation on how hard it will be for Sony to make money. An analysts predicts that 30 games must be sold per PS3 for them to break even. Hmmm... seems reasonable... $300 loss a machine, $10 profit a game.... Ouch.

A Perspective From a Pro Female Gamer 101

Via Kotaku, an article at the SF Gate website about the game industry's interest in female gamers, and said gamers' proficiency with aforementioned games. The Swedish 'Girlz of Destruction' pro gaming group is mentioned (much more legit than, say, calender models with console controllers), as is the 'Couples, Computers and Gaming' event at Ruby Skye in San Francisco. From the article: "Lee compares the rush she gets playing video games to her high school soccer matches, and said some women who don't play unfairly equate games with crime and violence. Lee added she's never fired a real gun in her life. She will return this winter to her student life at UC Berkeley, where she is studying environmental policy. Enderle said game developers are still male-dominated, and if game companies want to get serious about recruiting women to play games, they need to recruit women to help make the games as well."

From the Article — "The chip giant has managed to create prototype interconnects — microscopic metallic wires inside of chips that link transistors...","Carbon nanotubes...conduct electricity far better than metals. In fact, nanotubes exhibit what's called ballistic conductivity, which means that electrons are not scattered or impeded by obstacles."
