Comment Re:Best Economy Evar (Score 1) 196

GDP and disposable personal income are growing every quarter. This is not an issue with the economy in general, it's primarily an issue with how businesses, particularly in the IT sector, are handling the effects of the end of the Covid policies. And based on how my peers in IT are doing, it looks like we're already at the tail end of that downturn.

Terrible character, lies all the time, flip flops like a dying fish, total fraud, had zero accomplishments, her own staff can't stand her, zero leadership qualities, terrible speaker, refuses to answer questions, completely tone deaf (would not change a thing from last 4 years).

The funny part is if you read this description to most people out of context, they'd assume you were talking about Trump. He doesn't pay his contractors, lies about super obvious things like reading the bible, changes his opinions on a whim, bankrupted all of his businesses, lost most of his money, many people from his previous staff publicly asked people not to vote for him again, has rambling talks, answers questions by just talking about whatever is on his mind regardless of the question (wind farms!), and so on.

Unfortunately, we're long past the point where Democrats are pro-immigration. At this point, everybody is in favor of stronger borders, regardless of the economic implications.

The reality is that immigration is one of the major drivers of economic growth in Western societies. The US government's war against immigration has led to situations like with PSSI, a meatpacking company that employed over a hundred children, or with Hyundai-Kia, which employed 14-year-old children in its factories. As a result of the labor shortage caused by the war against immigration, industry groups are now pushing to weaken child labor protections, and have been successful in Arkansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, and South Dakota.

The Democrats are not fighting against this. They also strengthened border protections. Under Biden, the border wall to Mexico was extended. If Democrats had some kind of nefarious plan to bring in more immigrants in order to sway the election, none of these things would be happening.

The reality is that there is one party that has detected that they can no longer win a majority of voters in the US, so they're doing everything they can to make sure they can stay in power even without winning elections.

This will have terrible implications, not just for the US, but for free, democratic countries all over the world.

This ignores the effects of evaporation. If it rains only a little, water will evaporate as quickly as it falls, but if you run, by increasing the amount of water that falls on you, you might actually get wet when you otherwise would have stayed mostly dry.

Comment Re:What are the details of the scam? (Score 1) 167

An elderly friend of mine was recently caught by this scam, not in Sweden, but in another European country with a very similar system. I believe what she experienced is similar to what happens in Sweden.
  1. She received an email telling her that her account had been compromised, and that she needed to verify it
  2. She clicked on the link and entered the code from her mail. The URL looked somewhat legit (e.g. instead of "service.com", it was something like "servicehelp.com")
  3. It asked her to verify her phone number
  4. Then it told her to wait for a verification code. This took about a minute. I believe at this point, somebody started logging into her account with her phone number
  5. It then asked her to input the code she'd received by text message to "restore" her account. This then allowed them to finish the login

Afterwards, multiple 1000$ transactions were made from her account to another account on the service. It's possible that retrieving this money involved another scam where somebody is sent money, and is then asked to refund it through some other means, thus accidentally laundering the money. All that is needed to gain control of a user's account is their phone number and one one-time code sent by text message.
