Journal johndiii's Journal: New Job 18

Through a chain of fairly unusual circumstances, I had an interview yesterday that I thought went very well. That impression was borne out, as I got a quite good offer last night. I am planning to accept today. One of the key factors was that one of the key developers at this company was someone that I had worked with in the past, and had gone out of my way to support and help out.

Thanks to everyone for their good wishes and support here. I am going to continue to run JobCenter, because I think that it is a very useful feature for the community to have. Updates will likely only be posted evenings and weekends, however, US Central time.

  • Hey congratulations!

You should be pretty proud! I hope tonight will be a nice dinner out... someplace fancy! :-)

  • I'm very close myself. I've been to two interviews at a brokerage house and I'm waiting to hear back. If I'm invited back for the third interview, it means they'll give me an offer. (fingers crossed)
  • Hope it all works out for you.

That whole discussion (JE and comments) is the funniest thing that I've seen in a long time. I got strange looks from my wife and daughter last night; I was just sitting in front of the screen, laughing my head off. Thanks!

Heh -- always glad to be the source of a little merriment, so long as it isn't at my expense. ;-)

Now the JE has taken a life of its own...Lord knows where it will end now.

Of course, now that you're to be gainfully employed, I presume we won't be seeing as much of ye. Right? RIGHT?

Points!!!! *awards you points and throws confetti* you get points for having optimism through this ordeal. As do those of you yet unemployed *nod* even if you aren't feeling particularly optimistic. You get extra points for keeping the job centre up and running. I agree that it's a useful feature. hm. Maybe it's time i came up with a sig, after all.

    • Sigs for a good cause are useful - if you wanted it to be (sort of) low profile, you could do the

sig. Then all you'd have at the end of your message is

You might even get people to click in based on the mystery and intrigue.
    • Thank you very much. *bows* JobCenter always appreciates a sig reference. My current sig is a quote from Warren Zevon. He was diagnosed with terminal cancer in the summer of 2002. He was on the Letterman show in October of that year, and Dave asked him something along the lines of "What have you learned from all this?" His reply was "Enjoy every sandwich." Meaning to enjoy every little thing in life that you can. He died September 7, outliving his doctors' prediction by nearly a year.

  • I'm glad to see you've rejoined the working ranks so soon. Hopefully, your work with JobCenter will help other /.'ers with the same task.
  • Sorry to post here, but I can't post in sql*kitten's journal since I'm not a Friend or Friend of a Friend.

Problem appears to be that the asterisk in sql*kitten's user name is screwing things up. If you go to http://slashdot.org/~sql%2Akitten/journal/48341 [slashdot.org] it'll work fine. But my web browser is being so kind as to translate that %2A to an asterisk when I click the link. Changing it to %252A doesn't make it happy either. So, you might have to copy and paste that URL. Beautiful.
