Journal johndiii's Journal: Terminated 20
So, I got in to work early this morning, ready to get some last things done before code freeze. My manager comes in and says that he wants to talk to me for a few minutes. But he doesn't go to his office, but down towards the HR department. Yup. The Bad News.
To be fair, there have been some issues. I'm not sure that I really fit into the development environment. I had been working in a commercial software environment for thirteen years, and took this job when I was laid off last year. The job is (was) internal software development for an investment firm. This is different from the commercial model, particularly in that there is much more pressure to get the features in and fix bugs later. I didn't check things in until I was pretty sure that they would not cause problems in other areas. This was apparently a problem, performance-wise. There were also communication issues. I thrive on knowing what is going on, and I was not getting that. Even things that had a fairly direct bearing on my job were things that I discovered by accident. You need to go after information, but it helps to know the questions to ask.
There are some people there that will be less than pleased, but, well, that's no longer my problem.
Anyway, if anyone is looking for an experienced (14+ years) Windows C++ software developer in the Dallas area, I'm on the market. Extensive knowledge of C++ technology, including templates (heavily used in my latest job).
Sorry, but I can't quite muster the spirit for International Talk Like a Pirate Day.
