Journal johndiii's Journal: The botnet that has my gmail address... 4

It appears to be active once again. After several months of one spam on that account every couple of days, I had fourteen today. So far. Oh, well. The gmail filter is pretty good, so the only real effect is that I get to watch the spam folder filling up.

The botnet that has my gmail address...

Comments Filter:
  • Simple reason, really - I abandoned it over a year ago.

Freemail addresses are being targeted much more aggressively, because there are so many addresses, and going through 10,000 an hour all day isn't going to raise warning bells and get you shut down.

So, no more Cheapmail for me.

  • For whatever reason, my home email address gets a tiny fraction of the spam I used to see there. Where I used to get 20-30 every day, I get maybe 2 per week now. No idea what changed. My gmail address is also mostly spam-free though I bet that will change in time (no fair using my address when filling out online surveys).

I do have an old Yahoo address and that one gets clobbered. I check it about once a month and there are usually over 1,000 new messages in there and maybe 10 are legit.

  • My gmail address has been getting more spam in the inbox than normal over the past week. Usually I get none, but I've had maybe a dozen show up since last Thursday. I wonder if they need to tweak their filters a little bit.

My spam is an interesting mix of spam directed to my gmail account directly and spam that is directed toward my "real" email address. I use dyndns to forward mail addressed to my domain to my gmail account.

In short, I get a LOT of spam - but almost all of it is successfully filtered

I've been seeing spam that has google "I'm feeling lucky" links lately.
    Anyone else?
