jarold writes: Last week's episode focused on the adventures outside the prison.

This week focuses on the struggles inside the cell. Most of the episode highlights the triumph of Hershel's positive attitude and selfless concern for others. My favorite part though is the father-son moment between Rick and Carl. All the while, he tried to avoid exposing his son to any violence and its bad effects but ended up fighting herds of walkers with the assistance of his son. Its amazing to see Rick teaching his son a quick lesson on using the rifles.

I look forward to next week's confrontation between Rick and Daryl. Will it divide the group? If so, and you are to choose between team Rick or team Carol, which one will you join and why?
We shall see to what degree of threat will the Governor be to the group. Has he gathered enough army and ammunition to take revenge? I can't wait to see the duel between him and Michone. Stay tuned.

jarold writes: A viral story of a typhoon Haiyan victim has gone viral after it was posted on "Splendor of the Church” blog on November 11, 2013.
The story was shared and spread by a certain Mai Militante from Ilo-ilo City when one of his staff with others were fleeing their abode to escape the wrath of the typhoon and sought refuge to a safer place. According to the story, while traversing the road under a stormy condition, feeling exhausted and all wet, they approached an Iglesia Ni Cristo church building to take shelter for the time being. However, the typhoon victims claimed that they were denied to enter the church building for a reason that they are not member of the said church.

They have not expected this kind of reception from a religious group knowing that it’s a customary in the Philippines for churches to open their doors for all people especially in times of great calamities.

As of this writing, there’s no official statement coming from the headquarters of the Iglesia Ni Cristo about this incident.

Submission + - SPAM: Apple Working on 4.7 and 5.5 inch Curved Display

jarold writes: A classified information leaked by an Apple insider saying the firm will release two versions of curved display iPhones : 4.7 and 5.5 inches.

The display will curve downwards towards the side edges and rumored to be available in the third quarter of 2014. The smartphones will also include enhanced touchscreen sensors that can respond to heavy and light pressure.

The person familiar with the project revealed the information to Bloomberg.

We have so far seen the curved-display feature in the Samsung Galaxy Round and LG G Flex, which were released last month. And we are yet to see how these technological advancements will be received.

It has become a trend for Apple to release two variants, like iPhone 5S with fingerprint sensor and plastic iPhone 5C. The company has so far gained success in this strategy.

Is this another Apple innovation in the making or just keeping up with the trend?

jarold writes: Due to graphics error ( incorrect voting numbers were displayed on screen ), the Top 13 performed again tonight and America will vote afresh. The results will be revealed next week, airing on Wednesday. Its a great second chance for those who did not do well last night.

Tonight's show went so fast. They managed to squeeze the performances in just 1 hour. And the judges's comments were rushed. As they didn't have enough time to prepare, you can really tell the difference. No choreography. No props. No special arrangements, just pure vocal skills. This is good, so you can truly see who has the real talent. This is after all a singing competition. Some acts stood out.

jarold writes: A positive comment from a reader of CNN news on how Filipinos dealt the rampaged of the strongest typhoon to ever hit the Philippines has added to the spirit of resiliency of the Filipinos as a whole.

The comment that was praised by many netizens was posted by a certain ‘dudesk001’ on CNN article regarding the massive destruction that typhoon Yolanda left to the Filipinos. He commended the Filipinos are “unbelievably resilientThe indomitable human spirit at its finest.”

This profound statement from an ordinary and observing person has certainly lift up the spirit of every Filipino around the world and most especially to those people who are directly affected and devastated by typhoon.

Submission + - SPAM: The Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 4, Rick Uses 3 Questions on Carol

jarold writes: The Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 4 entitled Indifference is building up the the plot of the whole season. From then onward things will change. Events in this episode will determine the outcome.

This episode is one of those mellow moments. Others may find it boring but I'm so engaged in the dialogues. I think the events in this episode will be crucial in what will happen next. Carol leaving, how will the group take it. Will it divide them? How will Daryl take Ricks's decision. I don't blame Carol for decision, I think she made the right call.

Submission + - SPAM: YouTube Debuts Music Awards, Spontaneous and Fun

jarold writes: The first ever YouTube Music Awards was not any other music awards show you have seen in the past. Unlike the Grammys, AMA or VMA, it's spontaneous and at times messy. But it's all unexpected fun.

The usual awards show would take several months to prepare however the YouTube team claimed to only had 7 days to rehearse. It held true to the culture within YouTube Community — raw, unscripted and cluttered entertainment.

Hosted by actor Jason Schwartzman and musician Reggie Watts, the show celebrated artists, songs and videox that became phemomenal. It was shown live-streaming across the globe and ran for 90 minutes starting 6:00pm ET. It was held at Pier 36 in New York City. Performers included Lady Gaga, Eminem, Arcade Fire, Avicii and M.I.A.

Initial statistics showed only almost 900,000 views on the live streaming. It could be that streaming in countries like here in Singapore were not available. I had to watch through webcast in other sites.

Submission + - SPAM: Watch Out Samsung, LG Unveils G Flex With Curved OLED Display

jarold writes: While most of us has not yet understood the practical function of a curved display in the Samsung Galaxy Round, LG has officially announced that it will release its own version of curved-screen smartphone. After long rumors with even leaked images circulating, the device dubbed as G FLEX will be available in Korea starting next month. No details have been disclosed for an international release.

LG claims the gadget is the “world’s first ‘real’ curved smartphone,” claiming better ergonomics when making phone calls and a more immersive video experience.

The most intriguing feature which LG says, the G Flex uses “self-healing” technology : a special protective film on the back cover designed to get rid of scratches on the phone within minutes. That remains to be seen when we can actually test for ourselves.

For a bent phone, it is impressive that the battery is 3,500 mAh. Samsung Galaxy Round’s capacity was only at 2,800 mAh a notable reduction from 3,200 mAh in Note 3.

Submission + - SPAM: Thinner, Lighter and Faster iPad Air

jarold writes: Nobody see this coming. The fifth version of Apple’s iPad is renamed as iPad Air. Who would have thought?
It is 20% thinner at 7.55 mm, 28% lighter at 1 lb ( 469 g ) and faster with A7 chip, 64 bit processor ( featured in iPhone 5S ). The 9.7 inch tablet will be available starting November 1, 2013. The retail price starts at 499 ( Retina display, 16GB Wi-Fi ).
It is interesting to note that Apple has tweaked the price range of new iPad products from $299 to $499. Obviously, this is Apple’s effort to keep its lead in the tablet market as rivals Samsung, LG, Nokia and others are keeping up.

What do you think of the new iPad Air and iPad Mini 2? As for me, it’s just too bad, they did not introduce the fingerprint sensor to these 2 devices.

Submission + - SPAM: Samsung Galaxy S5 to Launch in January 2014

jarold writes: Samsung is set to launch Galaxy S5 as early as January 2014. According to Naver, a South Korean site owned by some former Samsung employees, the follow up device in the Galaxy S series, could be unveiled at Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas or at Mobile World Congress, Barcelona in February 2014.

The predecessor S4 would only be 9 months old by then. Why in such a hurry? Samsung is wary about the slow sales of S4. Furthermore, the tech giant, intends to feature 64-bit, eight-core Exynos processor. Other rumors cite that a fingerprint sensor could also be included in the upgrade.

Galaxy S4 became the fastest selling Samsung smartphone in the company history with over 10 million sales in less than a month after launch. Do you think the same success could be replicated by Galaxy S5?

Submission + - Too Bad For A.I. Watch, Smartwatch Craze Is Fading Out (gizmobeast.com)

jarold writes: After a huge disappointment with Samsung Galaxy Gear, it seems that the smartwatch craze is fading out. This is evident in the latest fundraising effort of another smartwatch wannabe A.I.Watch. The crowdfunding, through Indiegogo, started last September 25, 2013 and so far it has achieved barely $10,000. The project aims to raise at least $100,000.00.

Meanwhile, to avert negative reviews of Galaxy Gear, Samsung is heavily promoting its product. You might have seen the 10 full-page ads in the Friday editions of the Los Angeles Times, New York Times and Wall Street Journal. In Youtube, you can view trailers entitled “A Long Time Coming” and “Evolution” showing early incarnations of smartwatches in popular films and TV shows like Dick Tracy and Star Trek.

Submission + - The Looming Future of Bitcoin (gizmobeast.com)

jarold writes: After the crackdown of online illicit market place Silk Road, observers are wary about the looming future of Bitcoin business. After almost three years of selling online illegal stuff like drugs and guns, the Silk Road website was raided and shutdown by US government last October 2, 2013. Its founder Ross William Ulbricht was arrested and is under trial for drug trafficking, computer hacking, money laundering and ordering killing of one of its site’s user.

Some analysts thought that with the end of Silk Road, it would also be the doom of Bitcoin. In reality, Silk road is only a small portion of huge Bitcoin transactions. After the price dropped from $140 to $118, the currency rebound to $137 as of today.

There is a divided opinion as to the future of Bitcoin. Optimists say its a good PR as the public is getting aware of its business viability. This is a great opportunity for its mainstream entry.

Naysayers, however, point out that now with the attention from the public, it will lead to regulations from the government and even financial institutions. And some would shy away because of the possible limiting or choking rules it entails. The reason why it gained traction is due to its openness and anonymity.
