Journal janeowit's Journal: Pseudo Poll: What to permanently put on my pod? 25

To whom it may concern: Thank you very much for the subscription, it was the best groundhog day gift ever! I like it very much, more than boot-blacking even. (Watch Prince of Space if you want to understand that, otherwise take it at face value, which is also true).

After much consideration, I decided it was time for me to invest in an mp3 player. I usually carry around 5 cds at a time, and to make sure I don't damage the real ones, I burn copies to carry around. I did some research, and I came to the conclusion that the ipod was the best choice for me. Plus I get $30 school discount, and there is free engraving, and I have been trying to think of what to get on there. You get two lines of 27 characters each. And that's what I need help with. Here are some of the best of what I've got it narrowed down to.

Song quotes:
Are you going to die with that music inside?
This is a song to give you hope
You're never going to be the only one (this is sort of an ode to my fickleness and music, like there is never only going to be one band, one song, one album, etc.)
I'm not ready to never feel good again
I'm on fire and now I think I'm ready to bust a move

Witty things:
I liked them two years ago
My Rowsdower will save me (a line from a movie where a lanky teenage dork is the hero, and his trusty sidekick is a heavyset, dirty Canadian by the name of Zap Rowsdower. I'm not even kidding you. it has kind of become a mantra for me during tough times)

That's all I can think of right now, I am sure you can come up with something better. Wow me people. Wow me.

  • I feel slightly cool, as I've seen both of the movies you've quoted!

Could also put the Prince of Space quote on there, since I assume that you do indeed like the music you would be carrying around with you.

    • That does make you cool.

I watched that movie pretty recently and I had forgotten that they dubbed the little boy with an Italian accent. And that line, " I like boot-blacking very much" cracks me up. I am not sure if you are interested but this group [myspace.com] posts a new short every week.

  • When I saw the title I thought you meant music.

There are some things I wouldn't want to be without, but YMMV.

    • Knowing me, I'm not going to have any trouble finding music for my ipod. Even if I only include songs I've listened to in the past month that would still be well over one hundred.

And I have the worst cd buying habit since my daily walk to and from school has me pass a music store :D

      • Indeed. I saw the title, and thought the same thing.

And then I thought to myself "Alright miss-indie-pete-whatever-the-female-version-of-pet e-is... I've never heard of any of your favorite bands... and you want me to tell you what music to put on." Glad to have that pressure off my shoulder.

I like the bust a move one.
        • I am always up for hearing suggestions about any great rockish music I may not have heard.

And I don't go all indie on your asses just for the false sense of superiority. I think that there is so much excellent music in the world it is a shame to settle for what the radio wants you to hear. It isn't a crime to like bands or songs played on the radio, but to do that exclusively limits your selection so much. It also limits your level of interaction with the artist, whether you want to email them or see them
      • Mine would have to include Pat Metheny Group "Imaginary Day" and some Dave Brubeck. I can't go very long without listening to them (weeks at most).
  • I like that one for its thought-provokingness.

I think it is worthy of a permanent place.

Now I'm all jealous again of people who have engravings in their iPods. Who buys an iPod for somebody and doesn't have it engraved?! WHO?! The same Christmas that I was given my iPod, my niece received one for Christmas. My sister had it engraved with lyrics from one of her favorite songs. I thought that was incredibly thoughtful of her.

Because of the barenness of the back of my iPod, I think it is very important th
    • Mine isn't engraved, either.

Then again, it's one of those "gifts" that's not really a gift -- it was wheedled & begged & bargained for, and I wouldn't have gotten it at all if I hadn't said I would pay for half of it from my savings (which I ended up not doing -- it was worth $200 for Hubby to buy off his guilt and some of my resentment). :-)

In any case, no special messages on the back of my iPod. It's just a machine. What counts is how I use it, and getting reintroduced to so much wonderful mus
      • I know I should probably just be happy that I have an iPod, and that I got it for free. But, at the time, the sample on the Apple website was a blue (my color) iPod mini with my name (spelled wrong) engraved on it. It was just kind of depressing. I knew that I wasn't going to get some deep meaningful statement in the engraving, but I at least wanted my name on it. I guess that's more a reflection of my unreasonable expectations than the gift-giver's intentions.

Most of the time I'm glad that I don't have
  • I have several audio books , lectures and language courses mainly .
30GB of music and star wars :D
Oh .. for the love of whatever , buy some foil stuff to go with it , so you can wrap the think up to avoid scratching, it is not as bad as people say if you take care of it , but some things happen eventually

  • ... engrave your name on it. That's the first thing you should put on it, to keep it from evolving feet :-)
    • See, I don't really get how that helps. Without any facts or data, I think a person intent on stealing an ipod will steal it no matter what it says. Although they might get a better price for one without a name, I bet there are plenty of ones with names at pawn shops. Plus, many thieves aren't going to see the engraving until after they have taken it.

If you are talking about increasing my ability to recognize it if an acquaintence were to steal it, I think that most of these quotes are uncommon. And I wou

  • As I always say, the solution to all dilemmas can be found within the pages of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Now, I have only the foggiest of notions as to what an "ipod" is, but assuming that it is some sort of device a young lady carries with her to play music and cause carnage, then the best thing to have engraved on your "ipod" would be:

    Moon-Sun-Crazed-Fairy Flute

Or: At some point, for some reason, neither of which I am currently able to call to mind, someone (Andy? Ed?) used a label maker t

    • I'm really liking the thought provoking question, "What's that blue thing doing here?"
Especially since Mark once told some guy that is the one question he would ask God if he had the chance, and I'm always trying to impress Mark in ways he'll never find out about.

Do you know remember any of the songs by the Del-Aires? I remember being impressed by their song-styling ability.

I love how this is the factor that is preventing me from purchasing this.

      • All I could could come up with on my own were "Zombie Stomp" and "SODIUM!" (which would look great on an ipod, especially if you had a matching tattoo). The imdb gives the track listing for "The Horror of Party Beach" as
        • Drag
        • Joy Ride
        • The Zombie Stomp
        • Wigglin' Wobblin'
        • You Are Not A Summer Love(You are a Summer Sausage)
        • Elaine

The other day Mark and I were at some bookstore, and near the checkout there was a book called 'You don't Know What You Think You Know', or something to that effect. It was full
