This took a long time. I looked at the library for books. I couldn't find anything there that helped me. I eventually resorted to talking with DJ's. This worked the best. The DJ I talked to was DJ ErOk. He was friendly and helped me a lot. If it weren't for him I would not have finished this paper. A DJ needs to be proficient with audio equipment. A DJ must have an extensive knowledge of a certain genre of music and what songs are popular. Dj's must be able to think fast and improvise. They must have a good voice. A hip hop DJ must be able to work a turntable (most DJ's do anyways). A DJ must know how to dress well and be fashionable if he wants to be popular. If it's a club DJ, then they must be energetic, young, and hip to appeal to the crowd that he is performing for. Most DJ's have a distinct personality. Many DJ's are self taught and don't require much training (unless it's with new equipment). Dj's are usually proficient at dancing. A DJ will interact will many people during his career. A club DJ will have to perform in front of a crowd of thousands of people. Usually this interaction is one way (the DJ doesn't talk to every person in the crowd). The interaction before a gig is with the club promoter to set up a time and place. A DJ needs to be able to read a crowd and gauge its energy level to select the next song. This interaction is required to be a good DJ. A DJ will usually talk to the promoter about what genre of music should be played. A DJ's hours are good. They usually work on nights at weekends when everybody is out partying (they are at the party usually so these hours are ok). Although the most popular DJ's are self employed, the other ones may go through a company that will get them gigs. The most popular DJ's will tour around the world, while the less popular ones usually stay local. A pro DJ will get paid 400-1000 dollars per gig. A DJ will always be able to advance as he makes himself more popular (he will get paid more money the more popular he is). There are no health risks other than over dosing on drugs at a rave. Many DJs become celebrities when they get popular enough. There is a high demand for DJ's because parties are common worldwide. A DJ's pay will be very low when starting out. This is usually too low to support most people. Many DJ's will do this career as a hobby on top of their normal job.This is not true for radio DJ's, however. A DJ will have little or no benefits due to the fact that they are usually self employed. A DJ will have to be on his feet for hours at a time at a club. A DJ will have to take responsibility for a bad party. They would have to live with the embarrassment. It's arguable that all DJ's love their job. DJ's are Dj's because they love music. Jean Carriere Hour 3 11/25/07 Police officers are employed by the government to maintain order, protect life and property, and keep the peace. They are given the power to arrest offending suspects by the government. There is a variety of education that will aid a person in obtaining a job in law enforcement. The bare minimum requirement is simply a high school diploma. Education that is related to criminal justice or law enforcement will give somebody an advantage over somebody who doesn't have a degree in that field. A person with a degree may also get a higher salary, and will get an even higher salary with harder to obtain degrees. In order to graduate from high school, a person usually must obtain around 23 credits. There are certain requirements police departments use for age, height, vision, and physical fitness. A person must meet all of these minimum requirements in order to be employed as a police officer. These requirements usually include U.S. citizenship, a high school diploma, a driver's license, and a police record free of any charges. Police officers have many responsibilities but the primary ones are to protect life and property, preserve the peace, and enforce local, state and federal laws. The other responsibilities include Investigating, detecting, and preventing offenses; recovering lost or stolen property; collecting and preserving evidence; resolving domestic and other disturbances; enforcing traffic laws and ordinances and investigating traffic accidents; providing public safety services to the community; testifying and presenting evidence in court; and collecting and preserving evidence. Salary for a law enforcement officer varies. Their salary depends on many different things such as location, rank, duties, and education. In 2004 The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that police and sheriff patrol officers had an average annual income of about $45,000. Opportunities for career advancement for police officers and sheriff's include heading up specialized units like homicide. A full-time week is 40 hours. Police officers provide a 24-hour public service so hours may vary. Conditions for police officers vary widely (they may be in a patrol car or on foot). Dangers faced by officers include death, increased risk of physical injury, and increased potential for emotional disorder. 18,838 law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty in the United States. There are many work activities involved in being a police officer. Activities included are patrolling on foot, by car and bicycle; responding to calls/requests from the public to assist at incidents; attending road-related incidents including collision scenes, vehicle check points and traffic offences; delivering death and hospital messages to families; keeping the peace at public meetings, events, processions, trade disputes or strikes; conducting initial investigations, gathering evidence and taking statements, and complying with relevant legal requirements; interviewing suspects, victims and witnesses in accordance with relevant legislation; searching individuals, personal property, vehicles, premises and land; conducting arrests, whilst having regard for human rights, security and the health and safety of individuals detained, members of the public, colleagues and self; administering custody procedures as an arresting officer; gathering, recording and analyzing intelligence to achieve community safety and crime reduction objectives; attending and giving evidence in court and at other hearings; developing and maintaining community relations. Jean Carriere Hour 6 Senior Projects My name is pronounced like Jean Luc Picard of the Starship Enterprise, or Jean Claude Van Damme. It is French, but I was born and raised in America. I don't remember most of my childhood. I forget a lot of things. Most of my family lives in Upper Michigan. Technology is my main interest and it is what most of my hobbies and activities are focused on. I spend a lot of time on my computer reading and gaming. I am experienced in building and modifying computer hardware and software. I listen to trance music and some other types of electronic music including hard trance, uplifting trance, ambient, breakbeat hardcore and hard dance. Most people say that I listen to techno but this is incorrect (techno is commonly confused with general terms like electronic music). I have had mostly boring experiences with school. I don't learn very much from my classes. My history in English is bad, I usually do really bad in this subject. I never got more than a C or D even when I put forth my greatest effort. I'm not very social, and I don't partake in any school activities. One thing that's important to know is that I miss a lot of school because of migraines. I might have to leave class very suddenly if I get one because I have to take medication for it. I hope to learn about entering the workforce in this class. Another thing for me to learn is what I'm going to do after high school. You can help me be successful by passing me. My plans for the future are uncertain. I will probably go to Fox Valley Tech after high school. I'm not sure about my specific career choice yet. It will probably involve computers. My dream is to retire early.
