If you want to destroy the AI industry, just accept their ludicrous claims that AIs are conscious beings 'just like us' and therefore require the same level of protections.

What's the point of testing an AI model in a non-prod environment anyway? What does that tell you other than on a particular day at a particular time, it didn't wreck anything? How do you know it's going to behave like that tomorrow or the day after?

Strange article. Can someone point me to a reference that says HawkEye Live uses AI? I don't believe it does, at least I can't find reference to it (For example this article https://www.independent.co.uk/...). It uses a bunch of cameras to track the trajectory of the ball and calculates whether it was out or not. I can't see an AI use case there. The problem seems to be some goon had turned it off, not the technology itself.

Enormously, but doing so is politically toxic. Interventions are expensive and complicated, and ask awkward questions about agency, responsibility and society. Good luck to anyone wanting to make those kinds of nuanced arguments in this day and age.

This country is an absolute and irredeemable shambles. The Conservative party recently spent weeks engaged in a leadership contest and found Liz Truss, a person so badly out of her depth that within a week of her effective premiership, set the nations finances on fire.

Having then selected the least appropriate prime minister we've arguably ever had, they now want to install the loser of said contest. Jesus wept. The entire nation is now effectively held hostage by the collective mental breakdown of the 'natural party of government'. With no means to force a general election, us mug punters have to wait two years for an election while whichever ineffectual toad 'wins' their unwanted unpopularity contest clock watches until the bell tolls for their grotesque parody leadership. Our entire economy is built on ever rising house prices and infinitesimal interest rates. If we build enough houses, house prices go down. People who own houses vote more than those that don't. People who own houses also vote for those who prevent that happening. Thus, complex planning rules suit everyone. Except, of course, those who don't own houses.
