Every year I feel like I'm reading the same story on DST
The issue here has nothing to do with the intern. I'm glad everybody got it #hugops.
The real issue is how production data ended up in a test system.
HBO's tweet on the incident does not show any accountability on the matter and diverting to the intern is definitely not helping.
True, it's also something commonly used in all highly resilient platform.
You design and develop the best you can, and despite the best quality tests, you will always have some issue, so you integrate failure in your design, ending up with a way to return to a known state after a number of transactions (reboot in that case). And after years in the software industry, that's surely the only way to get the results you expect. And if you design for this reboot, all is fine, it's not even visible to the end user. Although in that case it was not part of the design...
The new tax is not targeting specifically America, it target all the Tech industry, which is dominated by American companies.
It similarly applies to French and European companies as highlighted in a first (non-comprehensive) list shared in the scope of the review of the law: Airbnb, Alibaba, Amadeus, Amazon, Apple, Axel Springer, Booking, Criteo, Ebay, Expedia, Facebook, Google, Groupon, Match.com, Microsoft, Rakuten, Randstad, Recruit, Sabre, Schibsted, Travelport Worldwide, Tripadvisor, Twitter, Uber, Verizon, Wish et Zalando. source in french: https://www.rudebaguette.com/2...
I'm amazed all the news is focused on "GAFA".
The most interesting point is missing from the article quote: a patch was provided by Alan Cox to commit his decision:

It is pretty explicit, maybe more than words.
It's a sad that such conflicts happen, but its usual in larger projects.
Sometimes the LKML and Linus especially lack the delicatness to say things,
even if they may be right, saying things in a way that do not offend people
is often the best way to keep their attention and motivate them going toward
the direction wished.
Let's hope Alan will continue its work on other areas for the benefits of the community.
They're doomed in the same way IBM was doomed back in the late 80's./blockquote> In the late 80's IBM stock was in the mid $20s. Now it is 6X higher at $120. As a Microsoft stockholder, I sure hope you are right!
Of course you need to consider inflation.
According to the Consumer Price Index (Cf. http://www.bls.gov/cpi/ ), $120 in 2008 has the same buying power as $45.64 in 1980.
So basically you are not 6 times higher, but something like twice
From another point of view if you put the $20 in 1980 on a placement giving you 6.9% per year you would have had around $120 today as well.
So it is not really an impressive performance from a purely financial point of view (on 28 years).
Reviews At first glance, Asus' P5E-VM HDMI looks like a regular Micro-ATX design with the usual crop of integrated features. But when you take a good close look you’ll see just how much Asus has managed to cram in.
First, we, French decided not to go to war in Iraq. We know how that turned out.
Then, it appears the French may have been right about the Blackberry, after all. It seems that little device can harbor some very suspicious software.
