I pretty much keep it so I can keep up with everything going on in the cities I frequent and my current list of 'must-see' musicians.

Insta isn't as good for that.

I like to keep my email clean, and because of spam filters and such a lot of venues and artists don't really do a lot of listmails.

Navigating to literally hundreds of websties to keep up? Even if I could script that, website changes, late minute events, etc would make that more work than putting almost all of my firends on mute on FB, so I only see artists & venues.

Also, Facebook isn't the only place commodifying your demographics. The real change we need is a law that which makes it such that companies have to license our demographics (or any other data, to be inclusive), so we know what's being shared and also make a profit from the content we generate.

I do cyber awareness training and since at least 2012, I have illustrated to my users (we're in a competitive market) that putting the FB and other apps on your company phone means that potential clients (if you communicate with them on that phone, or more easily, have them in your contacts) will more efficiently have competitor's ads delivered to them.
