Journal heliocentric's Journal: PA Lotto and PA Firefighter trainings 10

First off, just a little psychic prediction for tonight's PA daily lottery*. Don't ask how I came up with these, but trust me that I won't change them if I'm wrong. Since I don't play the lotto I don't see that I'll win anything, but I just thought I'd post this so as to discredit (or perhaps add some validity) to my thinking. I will update this JE after tonight's drawing with the exciting outcome. Predictions:

845, 854, 485, 310, and 031

Second, a little news-of-the-weird from PA. I'm still trying to find some linkage to share with you about this one as it happened a few days back, but so far I have nothing. It seems a local facility for training firefighters has burned down. Webster's seemed unavailable for comment as to updating the definition of irony.

Update 1 Tonight's numbers were 660. Oh well.

Update 2 Thanks to luvsbway we finally have linkage to the article, which I will copy to here now so you don't even have to click.

Fire destroys Cumberland training center

Building used to instruct firemen is demolished

A building where firefighters had extinguished countless practice fires in the last 30 years had to be demolished yesterday after an unscheduled fire left it unstable and unsafe, officials said.

The specially designed building at the Cumberland County Fire Training Academy in Middlesex Twp. had weathered flames in countless drills, most recently Saturday afternoon.

"I know we've trained thousands and thousands of firefighters from south-central Pennsylvania," county Public Information Officer Roger A. Kohr said. "Thirty years ago, it was one of the premier facilities."

The building was constructed of cement blocks that would withstand heat and flames.

"We will never know how many lives were saved and how much property was saved because of this facility," Kohr said.

Firefighters carefully checked that the fire was out before they left Saturday afternoon, but they were called to the scene at midnight Saturday and again at 6:40 a.m. yesterday, Kohr said.

Firefighters don't know the cause of the midnight and morning blazes, Kohr said, and any evidence is gone. "It's very unusual that this could relight itself twice," he said.

The building became unstable during the midnight fire. The walls had cracked in many places, probably from the intense heat and then the sudden cooling from the water, Kohr said. "Because of the cracks in the walls, the walls had actually shifted."

Firefighters had to battle the morning blaze without going inside, Kohr said. No one was injured, he said.

"We basically had to bring it down with a front-end loader," he said. "The sad part is, it's gone."

About a year ago a firehouse near Oley burned to the ground. They didn't have a fire alarm. Now insurance companies are requiring a monitored fire alarm and my dad has been doing a lot of
  • when the local department wanted to build a training facility for all the area departments, with facilities for fire, police, and EMT training.

It was shot down because people complained about lead from gun ranges and smoke from fire training neither of which would have entered the environment in great ammounts. It's ok though, after his house burns down, I'm sure he'll see the light.

    • What pollutants did the EMT training provide? Surely those dummies on litters clog our atmosphere with something harmful. I wonder whose backyard got lucky enough to have well trained saftey persons. Well, hopefully better trained than the ones who let their own fire training area burn down.

Did you mean for there to be a pun there?
      • Did you mean for there to be a pun there?

        no, not really.

One guy actually got up in a council meeting as said that shooting a gun would put lead in the air and all the bullets that they shoot into targets would poison him.

And the training area was out in the boonies with nothing around them but trees and feilds. It wasn't really in anybodies backyard. I just live near a lot of stupid people...
