Comment Pentest? (Score 0) 124

Would this not be the equivalent of hiring a pentesting firm on an x basis to give you a detailed report of your security flaws? This would give you your "root cause" I suppose -- and give management something else to berate their IT department over.

So, will we see another round of "The authorizing committees are free to set their agency budgets, and that includes NASA." - while attempting to get NASA heavily defunded? This is somewhat scary, and makes little sense to me. I suppose that's the point? I'm Canadian, so not trying to pick a side of the road here, but it seems somewhat awkward that a person with an accomplished history of hating science is put into a science chair. Is this strategy to make Obama look bad, so when they hopefully get a republican president they can swoop in and fix things? (looking for education here -- just speculating as I am not well versed in the US political system)

You are self taught, to me this means you have a greater confidence in your own skills than someone who edged their way through school. I come from a similar situation. I am a computer technician whom is self taught. At first, places were shooting me down left and right, what I did was asked for a skills-based interview; I proved my skills to them. Anyone can get a piece of paper, but the skills you learned are invaluable. In your situation, build up a portfolio, and go into a workplace with confidence. Ask to speak to the manager, and pitch yourself to them, don't just submit a resume. Hope this helps you.
